Is an Opt-In Needed for a Weight Loss Website?

Hi all. I am doing affiliate marketing on the weight loss niche and I have a Weight Loss blog that has 2 banners linking to an affiliate program.

Do you think it is necessary to insert an Opt-in box in my website so that I can build a list? Is building a list for a weight loss niche necessary in the first place?

If your answer is yes or no, please state the reason.

I can think of 2 good reasons.... First there is a lot of evidence to support the view that people don't buy on the first visit and may clear the cookies between your link and their purchase so emailing with your link keeps that fresh.. plus you are building a list and as they say..... the moneys in the list.

So it is better to build a list right. Let's say I email my list with some tips on weight loss, should the email include a link back to my weight loss website or the affiliate website?

Two things to remember. Most people either don't lose the weight they planned, or they lose it and then put it back on so they might be open to buying different products in the future.

As regards to the link back in the email series. I can only tell you what I do personally that works for me and that is to link back to the review page of my website that reviews the product. In fact personally I have a section at the top of each email that links to a review page to a number of products and with my main product being the Top recommendation on that page.

        This works well for me.

That said, I send out one email every now and again that is a review of a product and in that email I link direct to the merchant site through and affiliate link, since they would have already read the review in the email they will just want to go straight to the site if they are interested.

Once you have their email you can make sales from other products too. :-)
