Hm, the problem I see with your method is that you still have to guess-and-check for each keyword. That's not really "finding" a niche and more like a "stumbling upon randomly".
Great method for checking if a niche might be profitable though.

I see what you mean. You could type in many problem associated keywords such as 'how to stop my...' or 'how to get rid of...'.

Though I have stumbled upon some great niches using this method!

Just remove the keywords from the search string, then browse through the results:

You can find many niche ideas by just drilling into Goog's Keyword Planner.

Enter one broad main term, then enter some of the returned results back into the planner, as many times as you need to, you can often find a few nuggets just doing this.

Delving deep into Amazon categories and Article directories may also turn up a few more.

Go and search for the magazine images on google.
you could type in stuff like "weight loss" magazine images
and you'll see a lot of magazine covers.

It's like hitting a gold jackpot
because you see what's selling and even the headlines they use
to grab more eyeballs.

the research is already done for you.

It not only gives you niche ideas,
but also it gives you ideas about how to approach the niche.

But the best thing is not to look for untapped niches,
but to find the angle of attack that lets you enter
big niches where people are already buying.

Also, if you have any other ways of uncovering micro niches, then please let me know!

There are lots of ways of finding niches and then narrowing them down into micro-niches.

Just this year alone I got 3 very solid niche ideas from listening to the radio. I pay close attention to the advertising they have and I make a mental note if the ad keeps on playing.

Another way to get niche ideas is look for a platform or a publisher that publishes content for a specific audience. The "Book For Dummies" fame comes to mind.

Another way to get some niche ideas to type stuff in the search engines with beginning phrases such as:

How do I........?
How do I become a........?
How do I solve........?
How do I cure..........?
How big is the .............. market?
How many ...........were sold in (insert year here)?
How do I fix...........?
Where do I buy.......?

This will get the idea juices flowing and then you can use keyword tools to dig deeper (think Wordtracker, Keyword Country, Google Keyword Planner, Microniche Finder, etc.).

There are so many untapped niches out.

You can go to Clickbank and find them there. They have a lot of hidden niches there that not a lot of affiliates know about.

I use Buzzbundle - a software program that sifts through social media, "ask-type" sites, forums and blogs to find related conversations. It's not a very expensive program and works well.

My concept of market research is way, way different than yours.

I believe your tactic uncovers some potential markets; however, that's when the real research begins for me. Important considerations I believe you should include in your study:

analyzing the competition
looking at the trending research within the market
choosing a niche within the market and defining the audience
defining how you're going to position your business
describing your perfect customer
sizing up the market demographics for your prospects
discussing your marketing approach and budget
identifying some potential marketing partners for JVs
defining your USP and other advantages you can capitalize on
setting out your marketing strategy and the venues you will employ

and other marketing issues. This type of research doesn't have to be lengthy or too technical.

The value in looking at these things is that it forces you to get realistic about where you are and where you want your business to be. It helps you to focus on exactly what you'll be doing, who the audience will be, and how you are going to approach that audience.

Spending a few hours digging into this type of research will open your eyes and lay a solid foundation for you new business.

i just tried it out doing a quick search for a niche i'm considering. and although, the results were not exactly what i was looking for, they were plentiful. and i can see the possibilities and how this could be very useful.

Wow! This post got revived after a long time! o.O Since it's back in action, I'll offer a new answer. I use Ubersuggest.org and a Chrome extension called Keywords Everywhere.

Keywords Everywhere adds the monthly search results and CPC just above Google's search results. With that info, I can find all sorts of suggestions and also quickly see if the niche may be profitable.
