Seems Crazy to be so dependent on a job

There is money flowing constantly in all directions.

There are millions of businesses that that money flows into and out of.

Millions of people own and run those businesses. They are all around us constantly.

Opportunities abound and there is no shortage of them that utilize IM/Internet either.

So why does it seem like such an uphill climb to get mine?

Why have I not been able to figure out were my place is in all this.

It's downright annoying.

Anyone else go through this?

Hard to answer without knowing what you're trying to do. You're certainly right though, there is a lot of opportunity out there for those who are willing to take action. As your username suggests...people who fail fail fail, then succeed are seen as successful!

Keep trying! Stay focused! Take action!

Hello my friend. I totally understand your frustrations.

Keep in mind. That the social norm nowadays is to have a job. If you think about it... Internet Marketing and making money online is a really new thing.

50 years ago, people were still waiting on jobs and promotions to find financial freedom. Nowadays, its much easier to just go for it yourself.

Finding your place in this Internet jungle can be a little hard at first and take some trial and error. No matter how many courses you go through. You're still gonna have a learning curve at first.

But the difference between you failing and succeeding at this is based upon your drive, motivation and persistence to find your place and branding yourself and getting on a roll to reaching your goals.

For some people it's easier and for some this can be harder. But as long as you keep pushing youll find your way my friend.

Good luck too you, I wish you much success and all the best!

What I'm trying to do is be self employed. :-)

I have a great job, I make enough money for now.

It's a personal thing. I want to run a business. I've been playing with IM stuff for a very long time and never found anything that can produce what I make at the job.

I've turned out a few websites. I've made a little money here and there. Even created a passive stream of income that still runs today.

But it's a fraction of what I make working for the man. Nowhere near enough to allow me to make that jump.

It sounds like you're doing the right thing, just not enough of it. What happened to the passive income that you speak of, are you still building on it?

This has been my observation. People see successful people w/ a thriving business and think why they're successful and you're not. What you don't understand is the blood, sweat, and tears that that business person had to go through to get where they are. It did not come over night. All the success you see is because they stayed up late, they worked 7 days a week, no social life, ate ramen noodles, didn't pay themselves, etc etc.

You've really got to be REAL with yourself. How long have you tried? Some people tried for less than 3 months and give up at the first sign of adversity. Some have tried for 3 years even and still have not made it. But they keep on trying. Don't get into the hype of other people saying it'll only take you 6 months, 1 year. You're not them.. you don't know what knowledge they had prior, who is coaching them, their mentors. Just be you and do what you can do and don't give up. You WILL get there. It's inevitable. Only question is when.

    Good luck.

Everyone slags "job|" people off but surely it depends on what rthey joib is and the circumstances.

    1) Despite what some people say not everyone can be self employed or run a business. In fact i'd say a lot of people fit into this. Most people lack drive to push on.

    2) Some people just love their jobs. I know many find this amazing. But imagine if your love was flying and you are a pilot.

    3) Some people have really high paying/ good jobs. Again many find this hard to believe. But imagine being a crude oil trader at say Glencore. $2-$3m+ per year + equity stake. You'd be a fool to give that up.

So, not everyone is an idiot/fool/etc for having a job.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[9189161].message }}
    • Heck no, to each their own. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with having a job.

I'm just saying that I don't want to be dependent on a job.

And I am. It sucks, but I have yet to find a way to make ends meet otherwise. And trust me, I'm trying.

It just seems like there have to be places I can "plugin" to that will put me in the money stream somewhere. Some site I can build, some service I can provide, some need I can fill.

It seems that there must be millions of opportunities. Why is it such a challenge to find them?

Seems to me that you are trying to make money online but are struggling.

Find a good mentor and do everything that they tell you to do.

Be consistent and always learn from your mistakes.

The passive stream I built was a junk site that used scraped content that I pulled from various sources. I used keyword reasearch, grabbed a matching domain, wrote some php to pull content and pushed it into a wordpress site.

I built about 20 of them similarly. A few created a trickle. Only one was really productive. It only generates about 100 bucks a year from adsense.

I was never able to duplicate.

I want to build something legit. I want to find a legit need to fill.

Most people go for the easy option... They might have failed once or twice and given up! The top in the industry ALWAYS go through the same growing pains as everybody else, they are just the few who didn't give up!

My advice would be to start with an affiliate offer, or your own product if you have one, and then copy the sales funnel of somebody who has been there and done it! That is the quickest way to success.

My advice is get a really good mentor and follow everything that they tell you.

Shop around and read plenty of reviews before selecting a mentor. It must be one that really wants you to succeed, and also one that you will be able to work with.

If you have tried and tried but haven't made it yet, then you should definitely get someone to guide you to success.

As it has been mentioned, many people don't get moving until they find a coach or mentor and there is a good reason for this.

The moment you find a mentor, they will give you a plan to execute and make you follow it through methodically. Consistently doing the right thing sometimes seems slow and many people give up and move on to the next thing that gets them excited.

If you're not already doing so, commit to one path and follow it until it works (with or without a mentor).

Most of the things people sell as make money products in the Warrior Forum do work, but the people executing the plan they have purchased don't follow the plan all the way or give up too early.

Find something you want to do
Map out a plan to achieve it
      Consistently implement the steps
Keep going until you make it work

When it doesn't seem to be working, refine what your doing, but don't give up because the same thing will keep happening over and over again with other things you try.

Don't even think about getting rich quick, just think about slowly and methodically building a business.

As Michael mentioned, it's difficult to answer this without knowing exactly what you've tried up until this point. You might find this thread enlightening about a member here who had seemed to "try" everything:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-internet-marketing-discussion-forum/835317-my-im-journey-three-years-disappointments.html

Secondly, there are plenty of reasons on why people aren't getting the results they want. It could be any of these or a combination thereof:
    • They jump from program to program, never really building any kind of momentum.
    • They don't focus on selling
    • They don't track their traffic
    • They don't have the right mindset (thinking like a business owner and entrepreneur instead of looking to make the "easy" and "fast" dollar).
    • They don't study their metrics. How many sales are being made? What are fixed costs versus sunk costs (and other costs)? What's the actual ROI?
    • They don't focus on getting targeted eyeballs
    • They don't test new traffic sources
    • They don't have sound financial plan in place
    • They don't target the right audience / buyer / prospect
    • They don't diversify their income
And the list goes on an on.

The real truth about starting an online business is that's it's not easy. The concepts are pretty simple, but it takes a lot of hard work. I'm not talking about a money-maker where you put up a squeeze page then send traffic to it or send traffic to an offer. That's a money-maker, not a real business.

I'll never forget the big mistake I made when I first got into sending Adwords traffic to a bunch of different offers. The work was hard but once the campaigns were set in motion and optimized, it was pretty easy money.

Then my 5 and 25 cent clicks went to $1 and $5 clicks and I lost 90% of my revenue almost overnight!

That was many years ago, but I learned to adapt and to diversify.

Yes, bumping into obstacles can be annoying but it can also be a sign that you're getting close to what you want.

Not crazy, given that Billions of people depend jobs. There is nothing wrong or crazy with having a job, there is something wrong and crazy with not having one. As far as people starting their own business, that is up to you, you have to break away from the pack.

    Here's an idea:

Find your passion. This isn't always the case for everyone, but almost every passion can turn a profit if you know how to milk it.

For example, almost every passion carries questions and doubts. Focus on being an authority; be the go-to person that people go to read about XYZ topic, all while building an email list in the process. Offer things to your list that you wouldn't normally offer on the blog itself. Make this very clear to new readers on your site.

Then introduce a few ways of monetizing that passion when the time is right. Is the subject of social anxiety your passion, for example? Great, find a Clickbank product (or even an Amazon product) that you genuinely believe could help your readers.

Now, while you're building your blog it's also crucial that you connect with fellow bloggers in the same niche and build long-lasting, powerful and trustworthy relationships. This will eventually allow both parties to benefit.

The above is a long-term process/business, but stick with it and I assure you the sky's the limit.

    So:
Go and open up your default Notepad app.
Think long and hard about your passion.
Then make a list of the things you should offer and how to execute them.

    GO! GO!

So much of success is believing you can, holding onto that belief, and taking action.

Get a proper education, whether in a school, in employment, in life, but it must be structured and can't be "learning." Learning and knowledge are different from an education.

To find your place, find your strongest skill and put it to use before branching out and taking risks without measuring whether those risks will being you a profit.

Ironically, your name answers this. But, you should not discount having a job. Plenty of people build an excellent business while working at their job. You have to make sure that you are able to stick with it. In the beginning, and even now I appreciate trading a service for cash. It's a simple and effective way to make sure that I was able to see an immediate return. Eventually I would go on to build other businesses, but even today my services are my mainstay.

FFS...what do you want? A business or just income? How much of your current paycheck are you saving...10% or more?

What are your goals? You are getting some pretty decent advice, albeit somewhat limited in scope. Because, it is anecdotal and leaves out the personality involved, and as many have noted, we are all different.

And from your post it seems you went down a path where others have had some success, but it didn't work out for you.

Why an IM business? IF you are seeking a pay rate to match that of a real JOB, then why not consider all TIME intensive opportunities?

From a long range perspective it doesn't take a lot of time to make money, and to keep it growing...but you have to plant the money tree and take care of it.

You seem to have planted a lemon tree and it didn't even produce enough fruit to squeeze into you tea, right?

Best advice I can render is take the time to look at ALL the possibility, IM and off line too. There are people who routinely make 1000 bux a week off line on craigslist buying and selling things. The problem for most people is they spend the money rather than keeping it in circulation and letting it automatically grow.

There are so many mazes and dead ends in IM that it is easy to waste time and effort going after something which just doesn't suit you, so why not start with goals? Money goals as in how much do you need to match your job, including the costs of any benefits you have?

A job gives you a steady paycheck, so your IM or off line work has to be something which produces the steadiness of a payday.

Also, it doesn't take years (although many here have spent that) you could get there in a matter of months, if you know where you want to go.

So, what do you want? Your answer is the starting point, the Square One of finding YOUR place in all this.

    gjabiz

PS. Plant a money tree which will give you fruit for years to come, like a TOLL position on a busy highway.

Hey mate, I totally know how you feel about that - I have been there.

To find your place, I recommend you find a wealth-generating VEHICLE that is suitable to you and your abilities. What I mean by that, is try out affiliate marketing, product creation, licensing, selling services etc.

This may involve trial and error, and failing before you find a suitable vehicle.

    I hope this helps!!

I want to build something legit.
Build a mailing list of buyers. Easier said then done but when done right it can be as close to auto-pilot as you can get. What you get out of your list depends on what you put in to it. Junk in - junk out. Go for quality over quantity.

Get a coach but be specific. Get a list building coach or a niche site coach, etc. Do some research and it will pay off in the long run. A coach is an investment in your business and should be treated with the same due diligence as any investment.

To my understanding your furious at the fact that while the opportunity to make money is huge you cannot find a way to earn. I felt the same way before, and still sometimes feel this way. There's a few factors which I believe affect your success these include luck, effort, and talent. Every other factor goes under these three. The only thing you have control over is your effort, so get to work. Start working twelve hours a day if you have to. Read books, watch videos acquire knowledge. Start experimenting with different methods of earning. Eventually those three factors will line up and you'll strike gold, believe me.
