How to Pause Your Website in 10 seconds

Hi Warriors,

I just needed to pause one of my websites for an emergency situation and I am sharing what I did with you so that you can do that in case you ever need to pause your website for any reason. Well, most of you already know your way around the server, this is targeted for newbies.

This is not something you should do unless you really need to because when your site is inactive search engine spiders will not be able to crawl it. As I said, I needed it for an emergency.

Here is how to do it:

You can either login to your hosting control panel or connect to your server via FTP. Find the directory of your site. If your site is an addon domain it is usually a folder named as "yoursite.com" or whatever your domain is. Simply change the name of this folder and your site will no longer be active. If your site is on the root domain, simply change the name of the "public_html" folder.

When you need to reactivate your site, simply change the names back.

Use this with caution and only when you really need it.

Yea, putting a message is a better thing but this was for emergency cases that you don't have time to prepare and put a message. Just a quick way to stop/pause the operation of your website for specific reasons. Definitely not something to be used for established websites.

For Wordpress sites, it would be far better to temporarily install the 503 maintenance plug-in.
If Gbot just happens to be crawling and finds a blank page that's not going to do your site any good at all.

easy way is in the control panel for the site, you have the option to redirect the site to somewhere else and it`s independent of the site if something about ddos attack.
