I just went on a little vacation and had to do some driving. I was driving down I-75, around the bottom of Georgia/top of Florida. I noticed there are a LOT of huge billboards out there along the highway begging to be used.

Thats a lot of traffic on i-75. Has anyone thought of using this? You could probably even team up with 1 or 2 other people and split the space (and costs) in 3. I dont know what the cost is though

How about bus stop or roadside benches? Or taxi-top advertising or busses?

I've never tried any of these for an online business and I'm interested to see if they would actually have any effect

    Michael,

you can see usually at the bottom of the billboards what company is doing the advertising for the billboard. Responsible for a lot of the billboards in the USA is Lamar ... you can find their prices and website here at Lamar Advertising .

Offline advertising works, however the message on a billboard must be able to communicate its entire idea in 3 to 5 seconds.

That is not enough time for drivers to remember 2 URLs during the 3 to 5 seconds.
It is enough time to get one, short, easy to remember URL into the driver's head - especially after they have driven by it a dozen times.

Trying to sell more than one product or service in an Ad is marketing suicide, especially if the products are not related. It is difficult enough to get one single message into a potential customer's head.

The outdoor advertising companies sell billboard space by reach and frequency of message, and usually move the message around among several different billboards to saturate a specific geographic area.

You are on the right track though finding other ways to promote a website.

I am in the process of reading a good marketing book at the moment....according to the author, billboards are used mainly to remind prospects that your business is there.

Billboard advertising HAS to be used along with other marketing efforts to be worthwhile.

I would say that your business needs to be established and growing well before considering this method of marketing. It is very expensive!

      Good luck with your business!

The types of billboards i'm talking about are a little different than your average boards. These are in the hills of georgia and tn, along i-75. Some of these boards are so high up on a hilll and so large, they can be seen for miles (minutes) on each pass. I think people would have enough time to see it, comprehend it, but they are going to be doing 70+ mph, how the hell would they write it down to remember it?
