Is Craigslist Really an Effective Source Of Traffic?

I have only had one call from all the ads I have posted.

I don't understand how some people get 3 or more calls per day. What the fck are they doing that I'm not?

What can you tell us about your ad content. Do you have a compelling ad title and marketing message with the reasons why your target audience should choose you over your competition. Are the images high quality, call to action clear and visible? Lots of factors like this determine how productive an ad is,

Are you able to match the posting frequency of your competitors on a daily basis?

In fact, part of the answer is in your question. Are you scoping out your competitors' ads to understand the choices Craigslist readers have and how you can set your business apart from the rest. Sometimes, there's no substitute for placing yourself in the shoes of your prospects.

Make sure what you are selling in in the right section and you have an attractive headline.

Maybe you can share a little more information with us and we can give you a better idea.

Depending on the product you could post it in more than one section including the forum.

Spam and scams have ruined Craigslist.

I found Craigs list to not be a good advertising avenue. Waste of time for me, but other people may find it ok.

Hey man, I think Craigslist isn't the problem.
          I think it's your service.
          Think about it....
Since @ 2009 metal prices soared.
Since then prices have come down.
People in general are still in hangover mode of high prices.
Having said that competition is tough.
Just ask the degenerates that steal scrap metal from the curb on recycle day.
(Yes it's theft but that's another discussion for another day).

You should post flyers in your local Home D or Lowes or even go into an appliance store and talk to them about posting a flyer in store.
You need to think outside the box on this.

Now as far as Craigslist being ruined or dead or a waste of time, then you are not doing it right.
You really need to get your ad and message correct.
And making sure you have ...
          1. the right ad
          2. the right words
          3. the right offer
          4. posted in the right place
          5. posted a lot of times a day.

It's tough but once you get it right, you'll have a gold mine.

          http://www.warriorforum.com/offline-...s-kicking.html

This is where you need to read.
It's a thread in the offline section of this forum.

          I hope this helps....

I think Craigslist is loosing its popularity because lot of spam and scams ads posted on it. But you can still get good results with posting good and quality ads. It depends on how your ad looks.

No we do free pickup. Anyone who wants to get rid of their scrap can call us. ( near clarkston, that is)

Unfortunately there is a lot of competition

Could you make it up in numbers if you beat your competition by being different?

You'd get more calls if you paid them to take it away. It doesn't have to be a boat load of money but just enough to be able to say something like

          Make Money Scrapping your Crap
We are The ONLY metal recycler that will pay YOU to haul your scrap

I like to use unorthodox methods and Craigslist Discussion Forum is one of them for me. It is like a no holds barred anything goes crazy fest in there and that means I can post a URL to my website wherever and whenever I want. I don't spam, I write meaningful replies to questions and I use this as my handle/nickname

            ***********DOTCOM

The stars are the url to my website, for example GOOGLEDOTCOM

This works for some reason, I am not sure why, also I do something similar on Yahoo Answers... I think the reason it works is because I make sure to add a meaningful reply with useful information. I never start my own thread either.

Hope this helps mix things up a little bit.

Competition might be one of the problems. You need to find a way to separate yourself from the competition and you should be looking for other ways to promote your service other than Craigslist.

You should stick with Craigslist for awhile because sometimes you won't get much response from one ad, but when you repost it on another day you might get a better response. Craigslist can be unpredictable when it comes to ad response (based on my past experiences).

    There are many factors:

Ad copy, ad visibility, what city you are in, and your niche competitiveness.

You will need to let us know these factors before we can gauge more. However, craigslist is a very great marketing tool, it just connects sellers with buyers in a simple way, so of course it is a good tool.

I have never had luck with craigslist. A lot of CPA networks don't allow the traffic & the traffic never converted for me for any other offers anyway. Not saying that it doesn't work or anything but that was just my previous experience with craigslist

Probably because most people are hip to the fact that they can take their scrap metal to the scrap yard and get paid themselves. Especially in Detroit. I saw a tv show about all the scrap collecting going on there.

I've never really put much effort into getting more leads with CL.

The traffic is pretty hard to convert even if you put it in

    the "right" category.

I do get some conversions here and there but not much to make it a main focus.

  • Cl is a great place to start, but it isn't a reliable source of traffic depending on your business and what form of marketing you are trying to accomplish. I would recommend using Craigslist without focusing on it too much. In other words, don't make it your main focus. Just use it as a clutch or an extra source of "additional" traffic.

I wouldn't rely too much on it. Craigslist has become quite the junkyard of the internet.

i dont really know how many ads you have posted but one thing i know with advertising on craigslist is that to get enough traffic you have to post your ads in so many cities one after the other and virtually everyday (if possible)

Craigslist is a great place to sell things - but not all things. If Craigslist isn't working out for you, just move on to another marketing strategy to promote your services.

I was generating about $10/day on craigslist but it wasn't something I could grow much further due to human work that needed to be done. Took me like half an hour a day :\ so thats $20 per hour. ehh and I couldn't post more without screwing around with PVA and stuff like that.

You must have to choose the right place, category, attractive title, proper description.

    Craigslist still the traffic machine.

You need to invest in some craigslist marketing courses, you are not being clear about what you are doing, so it is hard for me or others to give you feedback, if you do not share exactly what you are doing on a daily , weekly , monthly basis , how can we help you if you do not mention these things.

Just started promoting my website on Craigslist 3 weeks ago and got 8 subscribers out of the 10 I currently have. It's not a lot but 80% of my current subscribers are from Craigslist.

No matter how you slice the cake never forget that there are TONS of people using Craigslist.

It's kind of like an ocean FILLED with fish.

The only problem, and the trickiest part, is preparing a good net that catches those type of fish.

Craigslist... is a source of traffic and - like any other source of traffic - it must be studied and tested by taking action. Action. That is the only way you learn. And the more you learn about something, the better you get at using it. Anyone that tells you it sucks, or has bottom feeders, or can't make money from it... well, they haven't used it properly - either because its too complex, or they simply don't have the resolve and commitment to make it happen.

If you're just getting started on CL, then you have a big problem... there is a learning curve and it takes a few dollars to navigate it.

The problem with listening to peoples opinions is you really don't know much about the person giving the advice. But this is a forum - and the subject of this thread is Craigslist... so you'll have to read and try to form your own opinions about who's advice holds more weight...
