Getting People To Buy From You Is Not As Hard As You Think!

Earlier today I was talking to client that was struggling to get people to buy her information products. And when I say struggling, I mean she was lucky if she was able to accomplish 1 sale in 3 months. Ouch! I talked to her for a good 15 minutes and then she said something that sent up the red flags, sounded the alarms, and sent out smoke signals because something was definitely wrong.

"According to the Internet as long as I create a product that solves a problem, it's supposed to sell like wildfire. People are supposed to be lining up with their wallets!"

Here is one of the many problems that is wrong with this statement...

People don't buy from you because you have a product to sell. They buy from you because your product appeals to an internal desire that they have.

A man doesn't walk into a convenient store and buy a pack of cigarettes just because he feels like smoking. He buys the cigarettes because he desires the effect of the nicotine.

A woman doesn't buy diet pills just because she just wants to lose weight. She buys them because she has the desire to feel more confident about her appearance. She wants to be able to fit in an old pair of jeans, wear her dream swimsuit, attract a man, etc.

It doesn't matter what problem you are trying to solve, if the solution that you offer to the problem doesn't appeal to an internal desire that your audience has then your products are not going to sell very well.

So when you are creating products and marketing them don't just ask the question "What's the problem?" you have to dig deeper and ask "What does my audience desire" and make sure you are appealing to their desire.

Some people do have the view your client did. I have seen a few too many sales letters that seem to indicate push a few buttons - make money, get something online - make money.

You have to appeal to their desires and emotions, then you make forward progress. And of course a mailing list to capture those leads works out well, so you can continue to build on the desires and emotions...

Yes! I had a client actually ask me "Why would I need a prospects name and email address?"
