In most countries, that's illegal to do, but you're better off checking the laws of your country to see.

Sounds like you have something sneaky planned

No way for us to know if it's legal, without knowing how you plan on getting all this data.

You can do that. Just make sure you put a legal disclaimer they agree to. You can do almost anything you want legally PROVIDING you follow the rules below:

        1. SAY - Say what you are going to do clearly

        2. OPT IN - is best, meaning they have to check a box that says they are ok with it, not a pre checked box or even a statement. You can use a pre check or just a statement but its a grey area.

        3. TERMS - detail it all in the terms and conditions of the site that should ALWAYS be accessible to anyone at any time.

*I am not a legal professional or lawyer. This is not legal advice. Consult an attorney before you do this stuff (or don't, just don't hold me responsible )

If you are selling information mined from public sources, I doubt you'll run into any trouble.

I am not a lawyer, and as in any business situation, you should not depend on advice from anonymous internet forum posters to make your final decision.

But, having said that, public information is public information. People sell it all the time. My bread and butter business involves the sale of more sensitive public record data than contact information for local businesses.

That is definitely illegal to mail or call mined data. Don't do that.

How and where is that "definitely illegal"?

People mine data every minute of every day and act on it. That is business.

Please be more specific, like citing the law that regulates such activity. I am sure many here would like to see that.

(p.s. I know it can be hard to tell, but I am being sincere, not provocative.)

For example, in the United States the CAN-SPAM Act regulates the sending of unsolicited commercial email messages. While CAN-SPAM has been criticized as generally weak on spammers, one area where it is clear is in the prohibition against harvesting. Specifically, the law defines every message sent to a harvested address as "spam" and imposes potential liability on the sender. This is regardless of whether the sender complies with the law's other requirements. In other words, including an opt-out link and following the Act's notice regulations is not enough to spare bulk mailers sending to harvested addresses from liability.
I think its pretty clear here.

Nobody is talking about sending spam.

Mining contact data for local businesses and selling it would not be a violation of can-spam.

It is up to the buyer not to violate spam laws. In this context, that would be easy enough to do.

No spammer is going to buy the data of hairdressing/salons/studios names, telephone numbers and email addresses to add to their spam lists.

A legitimate buyer will use it for business prospecting, which is not inherently illegal.

i am not sure you can sell public data, yet it is a gathering of information in a document - if people are willing to pay, there should be no problem.
private data it is really sensible to share and sell.
like many said above you should check the laws.

Oh yeah, that's ok. Didn't realize this was not about bulk emailing.

I get advertising in my (physical) mail box every week, where did they get my data? Have i agreed to receive that? NO

I guess you need to read the small print to find a way to make it legal

You can sell anything as long as there is someone willing to buy it !
If the data that you are collecting is public info then you can do whatever you
    want with it !
