Best forum signature line marketing strategies

Though we're all here to share internet marketing experiences and learn from each other, most of us use a signature line and this is a common way to promote a site or special offer.

You want to draw attention to yourself and what you have to say.

So, what are some of the best ways to use that signature line to maximum advantage?

For instance, is it best to respond to a forum thread first? Or, would you draw more attention to yourself if you responded last? If you respond last and there are no more responses afterward, that might indicate the forum discussion is dead and won't receive any more visitors which means no more eyes on your forum signature.

How about actually coming back after the fact to respond to others in the same discussion?

Do you find that using a banner or graphic in a signature line is more visually appealing and gets more click throughs on your signature line offer?

What about use of color text and bold words or large fonts for a text advertisement in your signature?

These are some of the questions I would like to get feedback on.

For my own contribution to this conversation, I would like to add that becoming a truly exceptional and valuable member of the forum community is the best way to establish trust with other members and it really does increase click throughs on a signature line. And, that just makes sense as forum members are more likely to want to check out what you have to say if you are really knowlegable in your niche and take time to expertly answer questions from members.

Please continue the conversation with your own views.

    Good questions.

I have very few, if any, click through's from my sig, but I'm not selling anything yet. I do click other signatures, usually if the wording interests me.

Huge banners and flashy images don't attract my attention much, but that may be different for others.

Anything that says 'invest $20 make $10,000' or words to that effect, I just ignore.

Thank you. And, those type of signature lines that promise a lot for so little investment might come across as scammy anyway. And, it's been done so many times before, so I doubt if it would be an effective marketing technique.

Do you think a question posed in a signature line would be an effective attention grabber for someone skimming and casually reading forum threads?

But people still do it, regardless.

If it was a really good question, not a 'Want to find out how I...'

The most important strategy is being in from of the right people and repetitive exposure. For example, I sell dance software and post on a dance forum!

I find that if you comment first on a newly started thread you get a better response to your signature as it will be shown up near to the top of the forum. Unless you are an authority in your field, or if you participate regularly and give constructive advice forum members will pay attention to your posts and of course your signature link.

I find a better response if you are in the first few. If you are on page 3 unless you have a great response to the question you are buried.

My best response is always the result of providing quality information.

You can be located at the tip of the iceberg...

But if your content is lacking? You probably won't attract anyone worthy of your devotion in the first place.

I've found a banner to produce better quality traffic. People who click my banner produce the majority of the income I generate from my sig.

As always, I suggest being yourself. If you are thinking about where in the thread to post, you are over-thinking it.
