I need some advice on researching the "Security Conscious" market

Hope all of you are doing great!

With my law enforcement experience - I've been thinking of putting together some information products for the security conscious market (i.e. targeted to civilians who may want to know how to protect themselves tactically from burglaries, robberies, etc.).

As I know - it all starts with research - but I figured maybe asking here on the forum, someone intimate with the security conscious market can point me to the right direction on some resources to gather information on what people are interested in that market - to find out if there is demand for the type of info products I have ideas for.

Thank you.

Hey man, really sweet market to be in.

Two guys you want to pay attention to - Alex Jones and Glenn Beck.

Now, you might be thinking "You're crazy"...

But remember that these guys are tightly knit in the "Prepper" niche, and "Prepper" niches are hand and hand with combat/self defense/preparedness.

    Step number one?

Study Alex Jones and Glenn Beck. They make lots of money catering to your target demographic.

    Stay cool man, rock on.

Until just recently, the personal security market has been among my top favorite (and most lucrative) niches. Being security conscious is not just about combat/self defense/preparedness or "preppers".

To get some info product ideas, consider looking at the various books available on Amazon under "personal security". It is a hot topic and of great concern among nearly all socio-economic levels and businesses globally.

In addition, Amazon has something like 3,000 or so security-relevant physical products that you can offer to your readers as "solutions" to the very real potential dangers for which you help make them aware.

I'd say look to creating a series of products aimed specifically at sub-niches.

The concerns of a well-to-do couple with multiple homes will be quite different from a young single girl in an apartment in a cheap part of town or parents with young children, etc.

Once you have the basic demographics, spend some time looking through a good email list catalog. Many of the lists available will come from magazines and catalogs serving their chosen demos. Once you have an idea of the magazines and catalogs they use, you should be able to take it from there...

Consider also 'cyber security'. People are putting their lives on their hard drive & mobile devices. They have home offices where they have to consider their work life & their personal life

      Maybe the opposite crowd?
"How to plan a burglary, what the cops know and
      how to outsmart them!"

      Look at the search results!

This is a good niche, its also a difficult niche to market because people do not know how UN-Prepared they are for a situation that escalates beyond their control. I would say your largest demographic would be women.

    Hey Michael,

We share the same great name ... LOL

If I where to jump into this market with information products I would go directly to senior citizens and ask them. I would talk to them about their biggest concerns about living on their own in their own home and also talk to people in seniors complexes because they will have different security issues such as being abused by the staff, etc.

    That's where I would start...

You can consider marketing the materials to people who have parents in those situations that are looking for advice on how to keep them safe to start with.

I love going directly to the people I'm trying to help and just talking with them. There is a lot you can learn from that experience which I'm thinking you have a lot of being in the kind of profession you're in.

    Hope this helped a little.
