When not to build a list ?

I'm been doing some physical product niche marketing and have always wondered what it would be like to build a list in these kind of markets.

Lets say we were to build an affiliate site on fridge freezers, do you actually think you can make money of this list?

Ok we offer then a free report on buying the best fridge freezer, some affiliate links in it etc So you get your sales and commission.

Now the emails........I'm stuck now.
Fridge freezer cleaning products ?
Recommend them buy a new fridge freezer ?

I guess some niches it might not be worth doing?

I'll keep an opened mind if you guys got any suggestions.

Thank you

Michael

    That's a really good question.

Perhaps you can figure out what people who buy fridges also buy. Try to find out as much as you can about your customers and you may start seeing some similarities.

Some people buy new refrigerators when they move into a new home. These people also buy lots of other things associated with moving.

I would guess that many people that purchase refrigerators have children, maybe small children. This group of people has certain buying habits.

You may be able to segment things based on the type of refrigerator bought. Customers buying high-end refrigerators might be less likely to have children, have more money, and be a little older. I'm just taking a wild guess here by the way, you won't really know until you actually find out from your customers.

I'd build a general list for discount homewares and appliances.
Send them coupons and special offers each week.

It's always a good idea to build a list. You don't have to stick to promoting 'fridge' stuff to the list, you can promote all kinds of similar products.

Thank you for the replies. Yes I agree with the promoting similar items. I suppose a general opt in list that might say

"We find discounts on general house hold appliances, opt in now and be the first to to know"

      Something along those lines.
