eBay confirms users' passwords were compromised but says there's no evidence any financial information was accessed.

I read that also and came here to find out if it was true.

I just logged into ebay with my old password with no problems. Didn't get any type of prompt or warning to change my password either.

eBay is advising EVERYONE to CHANGE their password. Of course you can log on. How else would you be able to change your existing password?!

Can't explain it any clearer than that.

Thanks so much for letting us know, waterotter! I don't log in there very often, so I could have easily missed it altogether.

eBay also tried to allay concerns of PayPal users who store credit card information on the service. Although eBay owns PayPal, the online auction site says that "PayPal data is stored separately on a secure network, and all PayPal financial information is encrypted."
That maybe so but want to bet the hackers are not busy trying to use the passwords to access Paypal for all those who shouldn't but did use the same passwords? - unless password length or something is different (I haven't used Ebay in ages)

Just saw this news a while ago and immediately checked my email to see if I had actually missed any announcement from ebay about it. Kinda surprised that ebay didn't actually send anything out, considering most users won't even know about the news. Are they putting too much trust in their encryption?

I was quite surprised myself that there was no notification. I guess they figure everyone will read about it on the WWW. Not sure if it's been advertised on tv?

That's why I decided to post about it.

It's so long since I logged into ebay that I've forgotted my password.

I went to the screen Reset your password, but when I enter my email it says "This email address isn't registered on eBay".

I know I entered the correct email address because I've seen the welcome email which I was sent when I joined ebay.

It makes no sense. Has anyone had this problem?
