Classified Ad Sites---Good or Bad??

Hi my name is James,

I have been around for a number of years but never got involved in the forum. I am here now and plan to be an active member.

My question is this... I plan to use classifieds to drive traffic to various offers but I want to have a method where I can decide which sites to use and which ones to scrap. Keep in mind that I have a list of 100 or more sites to weed through and I can add to that list everyday it seems. How can I properly check these sites out to make sure they are worth my time.

Thank you.

It all depends on what kind of offers you're promoting.

Generally, I'd see how much traffic the site is getting. You can use a tool like Quantcast or just see how many ads are getting posted every day.

    The king was CL

But they stopped links, now their traffic is way down.

But it's still driving local phone calls.

    Just not link traffic.

Forums are probably better now than classifieds IMO.

Thank you both for your replies.

MoneyWealth... Do you mean you can't post any clickable content on Craigslist? I thought you could at least use clickable image ads. I will spend more time on CL to learn their rules.

WebPen... Thank you for telling me about Quantcast. I will definitely give that a look.

Craigslist removed html and clickable links or images. The main reason for that move was to reduce traffic leakage from their site. They also frown upon you placing email addresses in the text portion of your ads. People tried to outsmart Craig by spelling out their links or email addresses, but that is just an invitation to get flagged or ghosted.

You can still embed links or email addresses in any images which accompany your ad, but they will not be clickable.

For our posting clients, we keep the ads simple with text and a phone number and an image.

CL canned any links to off site domains

they want to keep users on the site all day

plus I think they want to improve their PR, since it was a known site for spammers to leak traffic from

CL works for local leads by phone that's it, you do get some emails though

but they are all routed through CL so you don't have the addresses

waste of time CL for most IM

once they got rid of the hookers CL lost interest to me

    haha

Not have so much luck with Classified ads. But however I have heard that people get success with craiglist, backpage etc.

I posted a list of classified ad sites HERE

Those are the ones that will get you the most traffic.

All the other hundreds of classified ad sites out there will probably not give you any / much traffic at all....

Also, do not overlook offline classified ads in local newspapers, penny savers, thrifty nickel, weekly employment guides, etc. You can experiment with placing ads in those types of papers here :
Thrifty Nickels American Classifieds Weekly Newspapers
and here : Pennysavers & Moneysavers

I have had some luck with getting leads and building my list (in 2 different niches) with these types of ads.

    Good luck !
