Hello everyone,

I have been expirimenting on article syndication and have posted a few articles on EZA after they were indexed on my domain. I have had a decent amount of clicks and views, and the articles seem to get some attention. My question is about people posing the articles on sites without the link. I have found that the 8 times my articles were posted, they well all posted without the link. Is it normal so see that high of a number? They are all on crappy sites, should I be worried about it?

Thanks in advance,
Josh

    Hi Josh,

Do you mean they were taken from Ezine Articles and published on other web sites, but without displaying your signature?

If that's the case, it's against Ezine Article's TOS and you should tell EA.

If you want to stack the copywriting deck in your favor with tricks and hacks producing winners like: "$20K in three days" "650 sold" "30% conversion", then you might like to know I'm retiring and will spill the beans to two people. More info here.

If they have taken them from Ezine Articles and posted them without the necessary accreditation, they are contravening Ezine Articles terms of service.

Contact them, point this out and instruct them to make the corrections. If they fail to comply, serve them with a DMCA Takedown Notice. If this doesn't work, serve their hosting company with the same notice.

        Annie,

I left a coment on the page becuase they don't have contact info, which they obviously denied but should have seen. So I emailed the host (information is blocked) and they responded saying contact the owner because its not there problem. Is there a template for a DMCA takedown notice, or should I just write one up.

One of these sites has 352 pages and I jumped through about 35 and all were from EZA with no link. I figured out thats how they got them from me because they had all 5 articles I had posted at the time.

        Thanks for the advice,
        Josh

      Paul,

Yes, they coppied it off Ezine and then posted it on there site without the signiture. I was going to contact Ezine, but I read the Authors TOS and it says that they are not responsible if the content is stolen. Have you had any success with that?

You've been a little unlucky, perhaps. Follow Anne's advice, above (or just ignore them - they're probably not actually doing you any harm?). And good luck.

(There's absolutely no point at all in telling Ezine Articles. You, not they, are the person whose copyright has been breached, even though their terms of service were technically broken, too - there's nothing they can do about it.)

Above all, perhaps, appreciate that putting articles into Ezine Articles for others to re-publish them on their own websites is not really what article marketers mean by "article syndication".

This post from earlier today, in another thread, may help you.

And this one is a one-post summary of "what article syndication is".

          Exactly.

Also, even though it really ticks me off for people to do that, if you continue writing and syndicating there'll come a point where you won't have time to continue to chase old articles. Yes, they're stealing your content by not giving you credit, but you're not going to be able to stop all of it from happening.

It's wrong, but there comes a point where you have to accept it and move on. Besides, most of the time when I pushed the issue the site owner would just remove the article. They rarely added the resource box.

Try once if you must and then move on.

          My two bits.

Maybe include a non-link in all article posted randomly on the web, somewhere in the second paragraph that scrappers never read anyway that says

          "{name here} is a frekin' genius! - do yourself a favour and Google her/him"

Then the rest of the content

I am just trying to get my stuff out there to make contacts. I have been reading that this is a good way to make initial contacts. Thanks for those links!
Thank you for the advice about informing EZA as well. That saves me the was of time... haha

        Hi Josh,

It has happened to me and when I complained to EA, I got the same response as you.

I had hoped they would start to do something about it if enough authors complained. For example, watermarking articles that are scraped without including the author's signature.

In my case, I went to pursue the thief and found it was on Blogger, of all places. Blogger is, of course, owned by Google, but you wouldn't believe the hoops you have to jump through to register a copyright claim with them,.

So I drew comfort the fact that - at the very least - my article was considered worthy of stealing!

Over the years I find the ratio is about three legitimate publishings, complete with my sig box, to one stolen one.

Annie's a lot more patient than I am. I lead with the DMCA, with naked CC: to both the web host and the domain registrar.

Since they don't have contact info, post the notice in the comments - they probably aren't bothering to monitor those, either.

With Google's crackdown on autoblogs awhile back, I've actually seen a decrease in this kind of activity, but it still happens. As was said before, it likely isn't hurting you. Most of these sites are done purely for links, and never see a human visitor other than people like you tracking down content thieves.

Personally, I was never really concerned about this behavior. As mentioned previously, it really doesn't cause any harm, and in my experience you most likely wouldn't get viable traffic from such types of sites anyway.

For most niches, there are virtually inexhaustible (and much better) places to publish articles. Consider submitting articles to publications directly relevant to your niche, then using EZA as a repository or portfolio for prospective publishers to view your articles.

I thought the whole point of article syndication was to contact website owners directly and start building relationships with them if they say no, to try to get them to say yes? Once you have a base of people that like you, they will be willing to publish every article.

Never tried it TBH but check out this thread if you want inspiration.

This is what I am trying to do, but these websites are not relationship worthy sites. They are just spamming stolen articles at ~20 a day. A few of them aren't even english except my content. Thanks for that link!
