INTERNET MARKETING

I haven't looked into it because it seems that it would be very expensive -- and it seems like it could easily result in uncontrolled spending.

Is there anyone with experience in this technique who can give me some brief insight into the behind the scenes nuts + bolts of how retargeting works -- especially the $$ aspect?

Why do you think it would be expensive? It's paid advertising so of course you spend money.

But, otherwise, it's about the freaking cheapest form of advertising you can pay for in terms of ROI.

I know it's paid advertising. I'm just wondering how the $ aspect works.
The structure, how to set limits, etc.
If the spending is dependent on how many impressions, and that's a function of how many sites the person visits (out of our control), then it would seem that the costs could quickly spiral out of control.

  I bought some info on it a while ago, and it seemed really inexpensive, though the prices have probably gone up by now.
  
  And from what I remember, you can limit how much you spend, much like you can with other ads, like FB ads or Adwords.
  
  But be sure to double-check.
  
  And as with the others, it's YOU who will need to remember to turn it off or pause it if you want the charges to stop. I ended up paying way more than intended on FB ads because I thought they'd simply pause the ads when I ran out of (prefunded) money. But no. They kept right on running and charging my debit card. Ouch.

You control how much you spend as with any type of paid advertising.

In terms of ROI it is one of the best forms of advertising around and thus it's popularity.

Different retargeting networks will let you bid for different things. Some will let you bid per 1,000 impressions, per click, per conversion, and even let you limit how many times per day someone will see your ad.

The best place to start these days is Facebook retargeting.

  I think retargeting is a no brainer full stop. 99% of the people visiting your website are leaving without taking any action. So it only make sense that getting that 99% of visitors back to your website will make you more sales.
