CL is 98% bottomfeeders, dudes/girls living in their parents basement and haven't had a real job in their life.

It was better when CL had hookers, then some professional married men would use CL to look for hookers and stumple upon ads.

Now the only people on CL are companies looking for cheap ways to put up help wanted ads and the dummies using CL for jobs are unemployable.

Oh, they do have a FREE section, so yeah BOTTOM FEEDERS.

Worthless traffic.

If you take 100 CL ads for any legit service for a local business, 98% to 99% are zeros, waste of time.

I agree. I've never got anything from CL. If you look at the ads posted there it's just freebee seekers and people looking for actors/actresses to appear in porno movies.

Pretty cool study. I think you're looking at it the wrong way... Obviously, there are plenty of people who see your ad and "would" call (or take action) "IF" it was something they are interested in... so you should take that information and try to be a little more creative with what you're posting, where you post, and how you word it...

will CL let you put link to ebay,

and you can say something like,

"Compare at ebay for $80"

and then they'll see that you are cheaper than ebay

or put your asking price, and retail value price, in the headlines?

I've helped my friends and family sell loads of stuff off of CL.
Not once did I ever have a problem selling something.

I even sold a commercial press machine for my uncles business.
Sold in 3 days.

The biggest skill you need for a site like CL is Copywriting.

Your ad looks like everything else. How do you stand apart from the rest?
What? you think your price point is going to do that for you? Very doubtful.

That's like launching a $5 WSO here on the forum and not getting any buyers.
There is 2 reasons for that.

1. Your copy sucks
2. No one wants what your selling.

I couldn't agree with you more Tony. Your ad copy can make or break the response rate. You have to stand out from your competition. Also, am not sure conducting a marketing test on a holiday weekend provides a legitimate reading.

I've had good luck with CL myself. Always sold everything I've listed, even some things I didn't think would sell. Can't say got good money, but good enough, and I didn't have to "give stuff away".

This might sound dumb, but what about adding "camera" in your title?

When I list stuff in CL, I also list is the three closest area's to mine. I have to change the ad slightly to get all listed, but works for me.

Don't loose your heart and try in big cities by posting ads you will get a lot

i would advise not to depend on CL alone for your source of traffic. Try posting to other cities. besides who wont rush for free things. the internet is full of bunch of freebies seekers

So you offer something with little value for free and you get a lot of takers. No surprise there. Then you offer the same thing (film cameras aren't worth spit except to a very few die hard camera ppl) for $5 and no takers.

eBay confirms the thing is dead. Of all the listings there not a single one sold in the last 90 days. Maybe you should try offering stuff people want.

The key to getting leads on CL is the way you present your things. If your description is good, has keywords, and you are posting in bigger cities, it would work.

Write unique ads and post them, and then you will get leads

CL is a free way to drive traffic to your content but it's not stable and not targetted. You should find another ways to sell your stuff

Funny, SO many people saying CL is dead for selling stuff. Yet I've sold everything I've put on there. Just last week my son sold a working drying he got for free, he sold it for $100. I've sold stuff I didn't think would even sell.

Course it's clear people are not reading the OP's post in the first place and are posting for other reasons. Spreading miss information.

I sold my pontoon on craigslist. We also had multiple interested parties there when my brother was selling his lake cabin. I also know I have had at least one autoresponder sign-up by advertising only 1 ad/1 city in the computer services section (trying to figure out proper way to multiply those ads without getting flagged/removed).

I think it depends what you are selling as well as ad copy. The results you got in the free section has me thinking...

It could also be that it looks like there are around 50 posts in the free section for the day, and around 400 in the electronics sections. Posting in a completely saturated section cannot be good for traffic/calls.

Did you verify that in fact your ad went live and didn't ghost? It can take up to 2 hours for an ad to show up in the listings now.

Craigslist list is definitely more of a challenge than years ago...

But, I still routinely sell almost anything I list. I also get leads for my
marketing business and for my local clients, over any 30 day period.

There are so many 'landmines' you have to know what to avoid. How to
write your ad is critical (most are terrible) and what sections to run in...
when to re-post, when to use links in ad and when not to.

Pricing is more of an art than you realize. Underpricing causes readers to
think its a phony offer...and many items are so overpriced, you could get it new
at a store.
The fact that in most categories the ads are free to run, draws sellers who
pay no attention to all the above factors...and get poor results.
