Is the money actually in the list?

Many people claim that the money is in the list, which to be fair is true. A list can be a GREAT asset for anyone and can help build a long term profitable venture. However, I would like to tell you how the money is NOT in the list. Yes, I know it's confusing but hear me out.

Whilst many people would claim that the money is in the list, it in actual fact isn't. Why? Well anyone can have a list. I can offer a decent eBook in exchange for your email address. Just because you're on my list doesn't mean you'll make me money every now and again. It just means that I have an extra subscriber that I have to maintain for my email auto responder. For all I know, you could be a freebie loader, a scam artist or just a jealous guy trying to find information to steal.

The money is in the RELATIONSHIP of the list. I'm sure you have heard this before. It's true though. The relationship with the list is what makes the "money in the list" phrase true. If I offer great information for free to the list, then I have a closer bond to the reader and they'll warm up to me and trust me.
That's where I can monetize the list and offer awesome products to them. If I buy a list from someone, that doesn't mean its profitable. It just means I have a useless list which is of no use to me because I have no relationship with them.

Just thought I'd clarify that so that people understand the difference.

Thanks, Zak

Or see you as a source of freebies.

I would estimate that 95% of the people who have bought from my email followups didn't even know my name, or care who I was. They wanted what I had to offer, not a "relationship" with me.

Promote products and services that people actually want and need and you don't have to pretend to be their friend to make sales.

Hmm yeah that actually makes sense. It depends really on the person who has signed up to your list but yeah I agree. An email list is EXTREMELY profitable.

Money is in the product you offer to them, Not in a relationship.
Focus on selling something valuable to them and Not on making relation with them.... (just personal thought & experience)

    Brent has it correct.

You need nothing more than the right 'connection', in the beginning.

People buy things that I promote through sales funnels all the time who have no idea who I am.

I sold them something they were looking for at that exact moment.

Relationships are important when trying to measure the lifetime value of each customer you have, but the money isn't necessarily in the relationship especially in the beginning stages of that initial connection.

I think it's much more effective to have a great free offer to give away which is in relation to the main offer you are promoting.

If you promote a software, create a tutorial about that software and explain how it helps you.
If you promote a MMO product test it out and create a case study about.

Then use the hook in the salepage of the product. For instance there's a new squeeze page plugin who promises 70% opt in rate. Test it out by sending some traffic to a regular squeeze page and a squeeze page created by the plugin and make a short case study about it. Then drive traffic to your own squeeze page promoting the free case study and make the headline something like: "Discover How To Get A 70% Opt In Rate!"

That's the best way to make sales

The KEY is getting new subscribers every day, giving them value, and sending them different offers.

Pay per click will get you high quality traffic and leads.

    1. Be human.

    2. Build relationships (but not FREEBIE ones).

    3. Build the K.L.T. factor into your marketing - KNOW, LIKE & TRUST.

    4. Always look to give something back even when you're trying to
recommend a particular product or service.

An insight, your past experiences with a particular strategy and what it did
    for you.

    Even YOUR FAILURES!!!

Yes people LOVE it when they know that you're only human too you know!

Don't just try and make out that you're the GURU and you never make mistakes.

Be as real as you can show off your personality and BE YOURSELF!

That is what will make you stand out.

I've had people stay on my lists for months and years by allowing them to
become like friends of mine who I can share my past stories and experiences with.

Get your people on your side and they'll stay with you for as long as you want them to.

Many of you are fooling yourself if you think building a sound and solid relationship with your List is not important for a viable, long term business

You want to know the product the customer wants and build a relationship. If the customer trusts you and you give them the right product at the right time it will convert into a sale.

I think there are a lot of TRY HARD email marketers out there who have taken the whole "relationship" thing to far. Some email lists im on have literally have never sent me an offer or a product, just free information because "care to much about me to send me some "paid" offer"

I'm all like dude, stop being so wet! You think that because you reccomend stuff that costs money to me im going to unsubscribe or dislike you? Nope.

The trick to having a converting email list is to send the occasional gift (make sure its damn good) but always be selling more often. If you can establish yourself as an authority (by using your free stuff) people will buy something you reccomend because it assures them that this "isnt just the same old BS".

NEWSFLASH TO ALL WET EMAIL LIST OWNERS

people arent adverse to paying money for stuff. Its not "how" you send stuff to your list, its "what".

We're all trying to make a million arent we?
