Could I Be Banned for Discrimination?

Hello to all ...

I'm starting a 'Women Only' trading group where I teach new women traders how to break into this male dominated world.

Woman actually make better traders than men for a lot of reasons, but because of the self confidence thing, they are afraid to try.

So in my heart I want to target women first time traders, but I'm honestly worried I might be banned or 'slapped' because of discrimination.

Men will be welcomed to the live trade group, without question. But my advertising will be directed at women.

Do you think this will create a problem? And if so, do you have any suggestions how to word the name of the group or the advertising so it's not offensive to men, but targeted toward women?

Thanks for any feedback!

  • I don't see a problem with it really.

If you want to be safe - just don't disallow men from participating.

But it's fine for women to be your end-user demographic, and you can absolutely advertise that.

But be fair... Some of us men would be jealous if you won't let us participate at all. Haha.

    Good luck, and stay cool

In a funny way, I think you can probably do it more easily that way round, than if you tried to do something for men only, excluding women.

I'm a member of a writers' group which is sort of "for women". They do actually allow men to join, but all the promotion is aimed at women. Similar idea, in a way? I don't think they have any problems because of it.
    • Yes but any man can get in that group and pose as a woman. Especially if you have this group online.
  • Banned by who?

I'd read the TOS, or better yet, contact support at wherever you're placing your ads.

Actually, I'd wager that the more divisive you can be, the more successful your ad will be. But that's just something for you to experiment.
  • Really? Name a few...

A few women, or a few reasons? :p

One of the main reasons is that women, collectively, are a little less ego-driven than men, less concerned about "being right", and therefore more willing to cut our losses early from our losing trades.

  • Discriminating against Men is probably the last thing you have to worry about...
When it comes to "protected" groups we are probably the last in line... LOL ...
  • You can target any demographic you want. Just look at tv ads for examples.

You MIGHT even be able to not allow men. YEARS ago I read a case about women only groups and why they where allowed. You should ask an attorney though if it's still the case.

  • Banned by whom? Also, why not promote this to women, yet still let men join. After all, it looks like we have a lot to learn from women on this issue.

    • As a woman, I think it's a great idea!

But honestly I don't see anything wrong with it...people target specific audiences all the time. Never heard of a Dog Lovers group getting slapped for excluding Cat Lovers, if you know what I mean.

Although it probably would be best to leave the group open to everyone, and simply target women. If men want to join and learn from the ladies, let them!

  • As a woman, I think it's a fantastic idea. My concern would be the emotional side of trading, since it's a definite area where women are perceived as "weaker" (even though that's not the case). Still, I don't think you could get hit with discrimination as long as men can join too. Many of my clients run sites geared toward women (divorce, pregnancy, health/fitness, etc.) and nobody complains
