Is internet marketing analogous to going to the gym

I posted this thread since I didn't get a sufficient answer in my last thread, probably because the thread title threw everyone off.

If someone goes to the gym, and let's say they have a really good personal trainer. They do what the mentor says and go to the gym consistently and over a long period of time(take massive right action and persistence). Eventually they will reach whatever fitness goals they have.

Is it the same with internet marketing? Let's say you have a really good internet marketing coach and you are very self disciplined, teachable, and persistent.

Would the chances of you succeeding be 99.9%. If not, what uncontrollable factors might cause you to fail?

In short, yes. You have pretty much answered your own question,
given if that person really has all the qualities that you had stated-

"very self disciplined, teachable, and persistent." Along with a good
    Internet Marketing coach.

But you omitted one thing, that is a sufficient amount of start-up capital,
which could vary from a niche to niche, market to market.

I didn't have any success online until I found the right mentor...I was weighed down by information overload and was jumping around using different methods...You do need discipline and motivation to succeed though...A mentor can give you a roadmap to success but it is up to you to put in the effort and overcome any obstacles that get in your way...

A mentor online is very important. The problem most of the time is with the students who are not willing to do what ever it takes to succeed and to do what their mentor has done and is doing to succeed.

Haha are you on my email list?

I just sent out email today entitled: Pertinaciously Pumping Profits

Which talked about the direct correlation to why people fail at the gym and with IM

The underlying principle dealt with someone not being able to understand stress...

And how to move forward from it

    But besides that...

One's ability to not be able to pick themselves up after not seeing desired results is a big factor

I used to be a personal trainer and now I'm an IM'er...

So yeah, I've personally seen a direct correlation between the 2 scenarios

Having a coach can help you not only see the big picture but also how each of the pieces of the puzzle all fit together.

You'll be much more likely to succeed with a coach than you would without one.

The reason you didn't get a "sufficient" answer is because you are asking forum members with lots of various levels of experience, opinions, and success to make a judgement about "the chances of succeeding."

No one can answer that question with any certainty. You can't reduce the probability of business success to a mathematical percent that has any meaning for YOU.

No, it's not the same. Any business coach will tell you that he/she has areas of expertise. You can find a "good" coach that knows nothing about the niche or the business model that you've chosen.

The economy of the place you choose to do business will have an effect on your success. So will technology and advancements in your niche. So will the level of competition that you go up against.

There are lots and lots of variables, both inside and outside the business, that defy your ability to be sure about anything. The very best you can do is to control those things within your control and try to respond quickly and appropriately for those things that happen outside your control.

You've made very good points. I guess my biggest fear is working on this for 5, 8, 10 years and finding out that it's "not for me". I would have wasted all of that time then.

The reason I asked was if I could work on my internet marketing business long enough, I would see eventual success, just like going to the gym.

I'm not a fan of get rich quick schemes. The amount of time I'm willing to invest before I earn a consistent, comfortable income is 3-10 years.

Sadly, nothing is guaranteed, and even if you work your ass off your whole life and work a proven business model, there's still a chance that you won't succeed. Now if it's a high chance or a low chance, nobody knows.

Thanks for your input my friend.

If you go to the gym and work with a trainer for 30 or 60 minutes each day, they can help you get the most from your training. But the other 23 hours each day, it's up to you to follow though with proper diet. I think the same goes for an IM coach. The coach can provide a plan and hold you accountable but, the trainee still has to be willing to put in the effort in the off hours.

I think the "genetic" part in fitness can be found in IM world.

Some people will apply what the coach tells them and get great results because they go the extra mile with their mind, and some others will get smaller results.

But, in general, I'd say that with the proper coach, dedication and mindset, you'll eventually get there.

For some people it's better to have a mentor who tells them exactly what to do.

And then other people have the motivation and drive to do research and try everything until they succeed.

It depends on the type of person you are, so knowing yourself is most important i think.

Like every other thing in life, I think it's all about consistency... The right way of course. If you are doing something the right way continuously you get better and the universe rewards you for it.

even if you have the best tools , best trainer , best mentor , if you lack discipline, hard work, focus and basically if you don't give effort , you will end up with no result

funny thread.. about 1 year back when I started training (again) and this time really wanted to make a difference I took another mindset as I also (at the time) recently started a new business from sratch. And now still every time I'm on the threadmill and I still CAN go one but don't want to I tell myself.. if I can't even do those extra x minutes on the threadmill how the F*ck am I going to grow my business to 50k a month or more.

And it really helps me train better and better.

So, are you saying that if I do internet marketing, I will loose weight? ). Kidding. Well, you could say that internet marketing is, in many ways, similar to going to the gym

The virtues associated with going to the gym consistently can easily be translated into IM and vice versa.

    Knowledge is POWER!
I was a Personal Trainer myself in a past and I have seen lot of people getting into the Gym and did not know what to do to achieve their goals.
GUESS what! weeks after weeks they were looking the same and they were quitting for GOOD.
I STRONLY believe it does apply for everything in life.
First learn/apply/monitor your results and make corrections if necessary to achieve your goals.

The one deciding factor would be time. It's possibly that you could reach a 99.9% success rate if you had enough time. Humans only get about 100 years though, so there's a real possibility you could run out of time before success.

Mentors definitely help - I broke past 5 figures once I decided to move into $97 and above products. The kick to do that was from my mentor.

Alot of it comes down to your own personal drive and finding what works best for *you*. Never keep doing things if they don't work for you - always have the self-confidence to turn on a dime.

Yes you would be successful. The effect of persistence will take place and if you do fail on your first try, your experiences will help you on your next venture.

It's similar to learning the skill. After hours of work, you'll learn and become better at it.

I personally feel that having a mentor is very important as it will make sure that you are going to the right direction. It is true that it might cost some investment to get a mentor but it will be worth it because you will be avoiding making all the unnecessary mistakes.

Besides having the right knowledge, having a strong determination and taking massive action is also the key to getting results.
