Blogger Or Wordpress?

Hello Guys,

I am planing to start a healthy blog. I am thinking Blogger or Wordpress. Blogger seems easier to set up. Wordpress looks more fashion, I mean you can install your theme. Any advice for this? Thanks,

    If using WordPress, and wanting to monetize your blog in any way, you'll need to avoid wordpress.com (because of their terms of service and interpretations of them, i.e. for exactly the same reasons as avoiding Blogger: wordpress.com is no better or safer for a marketer than Blogger is, overall), and use a self-hosted WordPress blog.

    I would go with your own hosting and WordPress. I could never rely on blogger or wordpress.com to run my business. In fact, I would avoid starting any type of business on the back of another company. If wordpress.com or blogger shutdown in the future, your business will disappear with it.

        Tumblr is a good choice, depending on your niche and very tolerant of almost any kind of blogging. Also, there is an avid built in fan community that will happily share and comment on your content.

        If you need other options, you can simply google 'free blog' to find hundreds more viable options.

    Self hosted WordPress for all the reasons mentioned.

    I do use Blogger and WordPress.com sometimes, but never for anything important (I'll use them sometimes for 2nd level backlinks)

      I would go with what Alexa says . Blogger is enticing at first. But once you see the downfalls which she eludes to in her link then you realize WP is the way to go.

      If you want to get serious get Hosting and go with WP.

      Yeah, Typepad is great... I use it myself.

      I have a free Typepad blog that is about 3 or 4 years old now.

      Weebly is also great for creating free blogs, I have some 4 year old free blogs on Weebly that are still kicking.

      LiveJournal is also a reliable free option to create a blog.

      Webs(dot)com is good too.

      Forget Blogger (Blogspot) blogs.... I have lost so many of them for no apparent reason (Google deleting them) that I lost count.

      The VERY BEST option is to get your own hosting (HawkHost is cheap and very reliable) and set up your own WP blogs on your own domains that you buy from NameCheap, GoDaddy, etc.

        It's so easy that even someone as technophobic and incompetent as I am can comfortably use it. (And of course it's hugely safer and more reliable than Blogger.)

        However, it may still not be advisable for you to use, depending on where you live. For example, TypePad has withdrawn its support service to European users.

        I disagree strongly with the people in this thread suggesting that it's safe or sensible to use Blogger. I suspect they're a mixture of people who have been using Blogger themselves and are the lucky ones who haven't yet had any problems, and those who haven't noticed that there are a few hundred posts here just like this one.

          Listen to any thing and everything Alexa says !

          TypePad is easy to use. Maybe even easier than Blogger.

          Weebly and LiveJournal blogs are also easy to get started with if you are a beginner.

          I have lost many Blogger blogs over the years, until I finally wised up and stopped making them. I am a slow learner and perhaps a glutton for punishment. :rolleyes:

          Google can and WILL delete Blogger blogspot blogs for no valid reason.

          And for those people who say "I have never lost a Blogger blog in all my born days, because I am perfect and always do everything correctly." Well, that is like me saying "I have never broken a bone in my body in all my life"... but guess what ? There is always a first time for everything to happen : your first kiss, your first heart-break, your first dollar earned online, etc.

          I had never broken a bone in my body... until I was 39 years old.

          But anyway...

          The best thing to do is buy a domain name from NameCheap, then get reliable hosting (I like HawkHost) and create a WP blog on your own paid hosting.

            You have, and you've given some good advice there, indeed, Mojo.

              On one hand, you're telling me that the people who want to use Blogger don't have the knowledge/skills/money to do the things necessary to keep their site and their content safe.

              Yet in response to their queries, you and others insist that they don't use Blogger, but instead use a self-hosted Wordpress blog which has greater knowledge/skills/money requirements to maintain a safe blog as does a Blogger blog. Your suggestion of using a self-hosted wordpress blog requires the same precautions to keep it safe as are needed to keep a blogger blog safe.

              Actually, safely running a Wordpress blog requires more in terms of knowledge/skills/money than does a Blogger blog,

              To be safe, both solutions require:
              • bloggers own their own domain name. That costs money.
              • backups of the blog are regularly maintained

              In addition to the knowledge/skills/money requirements of having a Blogger blog, a self-hosted Wordpress blog requires:
              • A paid web hosting account which costs money
              • The knowledge needed to run Wordpress, a more complicated system than Blogger
              • The knowledge and skills needed to keep Wordpress secure from hackers

              When all things are considered, and if precautions are met, having a blogger blog is no less safe than running a self-hosted wordpress blog.

              For the people who are not technically inclined, and who doing the minimally technical things I mentioned to keep a blogger blog safe is purportedly difficult, suggesting a Wordpress blog because "blogger is unsafe" is not a solution requiring less in terms of knowledge/skills/money.

              Do you understand how the comparison of a blogger blog using a free subdomain owned by Google, and comparing it in terms of safety to using a Wordpress blog with a domain owned by the Blog owner isn't really a fair comparison?

              With equal precautions taken regardless which blogging platform is used, nobody should be in any danger with either platform. Your repeated comparisons between using blogger without a self-owned domain name to running a Wordpress site with a self-owned domain name are ridiculously imbalanced. It's not really a fair comparison when each platform is given different conditions in the comparison.

                You say so, Mojo. There are many people here who don't agree with you about this point. But hey: there's always room for differing opinions.

                Your timing for speaking out in favor of Blogger is "interesting", to say the least: it's only one day since the last person who started off a thread in this forum saying "What do you think of my site at Blogger, then?" (or words to that effect) had his site deleted by Blogger! That's the reality of what happens when people asking this question use Blogger. It happened, yesterday, to someone posting here - we can all see it for ourselves. All too regularly. (And this is what you want to advise other Warriors to do?! ).

                Whether you have your own domain or a Blogger subdomain, you're still hosting it on their servers, and the terms of service apply to you. It makes little sense, in my opinion, to be advising people who are starting out in internet marketing to be hosting "their" site on someone else's property, in such a way that they don't even own the site. Especially with long-established, reliable, decent, free self-hosting available elsewhere without being inconvenienced by any of Blogger's strings, catches, and idiosyncratic and notoriously inconsistent interpretations of their own terms of service.

                Just my perspective.

    See this is where I differ from most.

    I not only have an opinion but I have made money with both blogger and WP platforms so not sure if that means I have an informed opinion or not... take what you can.

    I think it is better to start off with blogger.

    It is free, easy to set-up now days has plenty of design features, you can tweak it to look how you want, you can run adsense at the click of a mouse, it will be a good learning curve for HTML, Java and PHP and really you can use it as a testing and training ground.

    Why put money into a WP design and hosting for something you are really just trying your hand at? It's a wasted risk.

    Go with blogger, if you find you really enjoy what you are doing and your goals are starting to take effect, transfer everything over to a hosted WP solution, its easy and free in most cases to do so.

    If not, you have not lost anything.

    All of the points everyone else has said about WP are all valid.

    I just prefer to look at it from another perspective.

    I used to use blogger and joomla in my first blogs backed in 2012. But I found quite good and honest review about wordpress on the internet, they triggered me to move from those two blog flatforms to wordpress.

    Wordress is quite easy to use, good for SEO, tons of free and high quality plugins available. Please look at these two statistics

    Wordpress self hosted will be your best option, its a little more complicated to get up and running than blogger but you can advertise the hell out of it and install plugins for all sorts of stuff very easily. I used blogger and back a few years ago i was very new to building sites and wordpress scared me tbh but im glad i use it and now have 3 blogs and 2 websites with wordpress.

    I used to be such a blogger cheerleader, until one day....

    1-I set up a blog with useful original content, blah blah blah.
    2-Slapped some related Amazon Associates links on the sidebar.....
    3-.........and one day the blog was just gone, closed by the mighty Google. Lost much of my content.

    Reason behind it? Nope. No logic there.

    Now im a WordPress.org cheerleader. And you should be, too.

    I use both blogger and wordpress. So far, they are both ok to me. To create a blog to share some of your business there, I think blogger or wordpress is enough at first. I agree with goindeep, you can start off with one of them.

    I will 100% recommend you go Wordpress! Blogger tends to delete your blog without warning if they don't like what you are posting and when that happens all your hard work ranking on the search engine is gone.

    Don't risk yourself of going that route. Buy your own hosting and use Wordpress, not only it has tons of Wordpress plugin that you can use. You'll be amazed what it can do using the plugins developed by thousands of WP Programmers.

    I have a self hosted word press blog or more commonly known as wordpress.org blog.
    I have used blogger and it is a great option if you don't want to self host, plus it is free.
    However, if I had to start all over again here is what I would do:

    1. I would start a facebook page and or depending on the topic a facebook discussion board.
    2. Pin photos to pinterest and link them to other social content.
    3. Squiddo for blogging or another 3rd party social blogging platform (that includes blogger)
    4.Get an autoresponder that provides a squeeze page to get people on your list. This should be the only cost you would have.
    5. If you ever decide to get into the "making money niche" or any niche that this forum supports I would use the Warrior forum blog platform as well. I would also use it for article marketing too.
    There is a lot of good stuff in the war room. Did I mention the war blog platform comes with that membership?

    Okay enough promoting

    The whole reason for the above 5 steps is to focus on getting an audience first then start a blog. This way you already have an audience that is hook on your content and will be more willing to comment on your blog. You'll have an audience. All you have to do is announce your post to your list and traffic will be there.

    I am sure that you have a lot of home work to do before you decide on what platform fits your needs and then you need to make a plan and stick to it.

      My advice? Don't use PLR on your blog. Generally, it's garbage.

      Why is that the case?

      Because it's churned out by producers who are typically more concerned with word count than quality. (The more words PLR producers write, the more money they make. It's just the nature of the business.)

      However, if you want people to come back to your blog on a regular basis -- and you do -- then you need ORIGINAL, QUALITY content.

      See the problem there?

      Highly successful blogs tend to have a unique, original voice. So put your heart into it. Strive to give your readers something special. The Internet doesn't need any more rewritten, generic filler.

    Private label rights articles are a great way to get a lot of content on your blog. But you do need to edit them. With PLR I would pick a subject that you know about. This way you can add or replace irrelevant or useless content easily.

    I Change the title
    Rewrite the first paragraph.
    Change the conclusion
    edit the rest of the content with my personality or voice.

    With PLR you have to change it enough to own it.

    And you need to watch what kind of content you get. There are a lot of bad plr vendors out there. That is why I only stick with 3:

    You can put PLR or write it yourself, It does not matter that much today. As long as you are posting contents that is being shared and being talked about you are good.

    Putting content and driving traffic to it is two different things. You can publish 2 - 3 articles per month and still get the results you want as long as you focus on driving traffic to it.

    "Oh no! Blogger is going to delete your blog for no reason and you'll lose everything!"


    Relax. With a bit of preparation, you'll never need to worry about losing a thing with blogger or with any other hosted or self-hosted blogging platform.

    First, make sure you control your web address.

    Anyone who hosts a blogger blog or a wordpress blog on a free subdomain provided by their blog provider or host is at risk of losing their address on the web.

    Buy a domain name whether you use Blogger, Wordpress.com, a self-hosted Wordpress blog, or anything else.

    Second, control your content.

    People complain about blogger or Wordpress.com suspending their blogs. Others complain that their self-hosted Wordpress blog disappeared because their hosting company had a hard drive failure and lost everybody's content.

    Just keep backups. You can download a backup of your complete blogger blog by going into Settings->Other-> Export blog. You can download a backup of your self-hosted wordpress blog using cPanel.

    If something ever happens to your blog and you have a backup of it, you can restore your content. It's that simple.


    You're always safe on any platform if you control
    • Your web address (by owning your domain name)
    • Your content (by downloading a backup of your blog)

    No problem can be catastrophic if you just do those two things. Control your content. Control your web address. That's all. And it's really easy to do.


    It is really simple to NOT lose your blog on Blogger or any other platform if you've taken those two simple precautions.

    As like a few other have mentioned, the best way to go is self hosted wordpress website. Wordpress can do literally anything these days.

    Not only that, if you come to build a website on blogger or wordpress and then come to the point where you would like to sell it, you won't be able to.

    Unlike you would on your own domain name and using the self hosted wordpress solution.

    how about using both? Just wondering, is it wrong to post your article on your own wordpress blog and at the same time create a same post with blogger?

    With this we can get both traffic, (google love their own blog, but must play with their game). :-)

      I wouldn't post the exact same content on each that will not get more views but you can use blogger in a different way. For each sub-niche on your main site you can create a blogger blog. Now instead of posting the same info that is on your main blog your curate content from youtube, article directories and so on. You link that blog to category on your main site or a related sales page. Now you can use that blog to do small experiments with link building and see what gets results and what doesn't. If you find a technique that is working then the main page on your real blog should also get a lift.

    Well, you see. Both sites are great and they both have strong advantages. If I were you I would do some split testing on both sites in order to see exactly which site will rank better in the search engines. Blogger takes a lot more effort while Wordpress will rank your site based on plugins that you only have to set up one time. Its up to you.

    I use both, but remember that blogs are slow and speed is of essence. Basically, most amateurs use word press. Like it is easy to set up. However, as soon as you start to get traffic, your web site slows down to a crawl [MYSQL is a resource pig] and you get kicked out by your web hosting company. They send you a message. It is:

    This account has been canceled due to excessive resource use.

    Right now I concentrate on using plain vanilla straight HTML to create web pages. Also, avoid any self hosted videos or excessive images. Those can get you kicked out perm.

    Both are useful cms System but mostly peoples want to use word press because easy and also have lots of features for its users our team also using Word Press sites..

    Word Press have many plugin front of your requirement but blogger have not like word press.

    Too many times have I seen people's dreams (and businesses) crushed because their website was on a free platform that decided they were going to lock the account for some random reason.

    You can get a .com domain and hosting for a year with godaddy as cheaper as 12$ a year. Its not a big deal, so go and purchase your own domain. Now you can use wordpress on your domain and monetize your blog as you want.

    I would use Wordpress and self host it. You always want to have control of your own domain and content. When you use Blogger and others like it, you are giving up much of that control.

    If you have a long term business plan on the internet, you need a hosting plan. Wordpress is free with any hosting plan. So, why would you go for any free solution? Now it seems free. But tomorrow, you'll regret the time you've wasted on something that you don't have full control on.

    So, no blogger, no wordpress.com. Buy your hosting plan, install wordpress and get used to it. It'll be your best help in the long run.

    I have tried both and I stuck with wordpress, I just love the options and plugins I get with wordpress. BTW Wp isn't fashion - it's simply more diverse. You just have to start getting used to it and I'll sure you'll love it better than Blogger. If you are planning something big go with Wordpress - it isn't at all difficult to learn.

    Try avoiding blogger , when using blogger it would be used on their servers, meaning that your blog would be on a sub-domain. Go for having your own personal domain name. Having blog spot in your url can be annoying. Also they can delete your blog at there discretion. You'll get what you pay for or don't.
