Best Ways to Sell Digital Course Online?

Hey everyone. I am brand new here. This is my first post.

I am creating an online course to help people get the most out of Linkedin, especially in terms of traffic. I get between 250 - 500 connection requests a week, by doing things in a very specific way.

What are some tools I can use to sell a video course, online? Any help would be awesome!

Maybe there's already a thread on here that covers this?

Thanks!

The best way would be to give something of value away for free to build an email list of people interested in LinkedIn, then marketing your course to them using email marketing and a salesletter.

    You can also try Udemy.com.

Thanks @JohnRyerson! I've been building an email list and doing it exactly like you mentioned.

I should have clarified my question more. I'm trying to figure out the best mechanism for selling the course. Udemy is one that I've looked into.

Are there other ways to sell the course, besides on Udemy?

You can offer your video course in WSO section with a good pricing, I am sure you will get great response.

      Agreed.

Also, you could put the training videos or audios (or in PDF form) on a CD or DVD and sell it on Ebay.

If CD`s containing 70 PDF ebooks on brewing beer at home are selling on Ebay (and indeed they are) then certainly you could sell your training videos on CD`s there too.

      Just my 2 cents.

    Hey JJ,
It seems you need a membership system to sell your tutorial online. The best things I can suggest you, please go to Yaro Starak blog, Entrepreneurs-Journey.com - The Blog Of Yaro Starak. Just download 3 free ebooks about memberships (I did). The books are quite good and detail in expalaining how to market and build membership website. He is an expert how to build membership web.

To make membership web, you can use "Paidmembershipspro" plugin for wordpress, it is absolutely free and rich features like premium plugin, almost 142 thousands downloads in wordpress.org.

    thanks.

When you say "course," what do you really mean?

Just videos and written material? Or are you incorporating quizzes, community forums, etc?

I do exactly what you are asking about, and use aMember Pro with great success. If you went this route, what features you want to provide will determine whether aMember is all you need, or if you'll need to bridge other applications to it.

Membership is the way to go, if you can produce and edit your videos to show your customers how to get more connections, that is something that will sell, definitely use a good plugin, (preferably one that uses Amazon CDN and S3) make sure you get that right because slow videos can hurt your membership retention rate.

Iv never tried this but if you think its a good course and will engage your viewers then offer the first chapter for like 1.99 on ebay and give them a discount or bonus if they buy the rest of the course. or ad a sales video to youtube with a link.

I was going to suggest a WSO, this is actually a product that I would personally be interested in, for my offline business!
You could consider doing two prices for the WSO. If you do go that route, you could set one price lower than the standard WSO price in exchange for a review and then use these for your sales page if and when you decide to launch the product outside of the forum and have affiliates promote it for you.

I would suggest you take a look at membership plugins like membermouse or learndash or S2Member. It depends upon what functionality you want. I use a plugin called wp emember by tips and tricks HQ and I am fully satisfied with it.

don't use Udemy, it use to be good for making money now it just sucks.
Make the course self-hosted like a membership site setup will make you much more money then Udemy.

Then you can combine the membership model with a WSO for example.

The way I do it is upload videos to Amazon S3, create a membership blog, although one fee for entry is fine. Does not need to be recurring payment. Embed videos in posts in blog for your paying customers to view. I use WishList for the membership software.

Thank you EVERYONE for all of the awesome advice, so far!

I'm checking-out all of the suggestions you've made. To answer some questions directly...

@GreenOwn123: Fascinating that PDF’s of beer brewing are selling on Ebay. I have a friend who has started brewing beer at his house. Apparently, people get REALLY into that. Thanks for suggesting it.

@IndoSEO: I’ve downloaded the books and audio version you suggested and I’m checking it out. Thank you!

@JackGordon: The course will contain video, audio, text and slides. If I do go for a membership site, it will certainly have a forum. I had been looking at Nation Builder to do a member site… but it seems to be difficult. Thanks for suggesting aMember Pro. It looks great.

@Tim Franklin: Great to hear that you think people will be interested in it. Have looked into Amazon S3 but forgot about that. Thanks for reminding me. Good call on making sure the videos load quickly. I hate slow video load times.

@WessJ: Interesting idea. I do plan to offer pieces of the course elsewhere, for free to cheap. I figure it’d be a good way to get people interested in it.

@AssignmentWriter: Definitely gonna go for WSO.

@RobHarris: Great idea on the two prices. Getting affiliates is also a great idea. Do you know what the standard affiliate split is? I’d imagine 50%?

@Sober: Thanks for the advice and plugin suggestions!

@SteveSRS: I spent some more time looking into Udemy yesterday. I’ve heard similar things to what you said. Apparently, some instructors are only getting 25% of the money paid for a course. That’s ridiculous. Maybe I should just put few lower priced courses on there and use the platform as a marketing tool to send people to my personal site.

@Sbucciarel: Great suggestions. Also, your pic is great. I will check-out WishList for sure.

Have you looked at the Moodle courseware? Used by many universities, has built in enrollment fee and transactions, social hangouts for students and much more. You can insert any media, give quizzes, have instructor "office hours", etc.

        Hi Joshua,

Just in case you are using Moodle for your site to sell courses.

I would suggest you could try Moodle with WordPress to sell your courses online.
With WordPress, you will be able to create a better user-friendly website even if you do not have any coding expertise since it has simple and easy to use features for your web development.

But for both the systems to work seamlessly you may require an integration plugin to integrate both Moodle and WordPress.
We have Edwiser Bridge an integration plugin which syncs the courses that you create in Moodle to WordPress by the click of few buttons.
Edwiser Bridge has a payment gateway of itself which could be used to sell courses from WordPress.

        Regards.

I use Moodle, along with aMember.

All I can say is that it is a BIG program, and probably tremendous overkill for what the OP wants to do.

The only way I would suggest going there is if he wanted to incorporate dynamic testing into the course.

Since he doesn't, there is no reason to make his project as complex as Moodle inevitably would.

What are some tools I can use to sell a video course, online? Any help would be awesome!
That all depends on a range of variables. Two specifics would be...
    * What Format is your course? (PDF, Video, Presentation, Mixed, etc)
    * What skills do you have that would help set things up? (Web Design, Funnel creation, etc)

You could set up a series of reports, bundle it all into a .zip and sell it through Clickbank, JVZoo, DigiResults, Shareasale, Warriorplus, etc.

You could create a membership website with payments through JVzoo, WarriorPlus, or Paypal.

You could also create a Udemy course if you have a decent mixture of Video content (40% minimum I believe). Careful, I just checked Udemy and they take 50% of the income... Real harsh.

Sell your course on https://sellfy.com/. It`s the easiest and fastest way to get started selling your products. Just upload your files, set the price, write an attracting description then share it on the web.
