What's happened to the Warrior Forum color scheme?

Hi Warriors,

One minute I'm in the old familiar Warrior Forum, dispensing advice to anyone foolish enough to listen.

And then ...

BAM!

The next minute, everything has turned blue - just like every other forum on the planet.

Is this a dastardy dawn raid by Alaister whilst the world is asleep?

Or perhaps I'm now paying the price of having drunk those ten glasses of bubbly, last night ...

Paul

P.S. It turned blue at 6:38 GMT. And now, at 6:47 GMT, it's back to the old familiar red.

I guess it really was my hangover. I'll have to limit myself to just three bottles of Champagne a night from now on.

Probably a momentary issue while they changed templates.

I think they are in the course of changing templates. I say that because the font is still the old one and it looks odd with the new design. Some of the buttons are still the old one, too.

I like the font size, but I prefer Verdana. I saw the colors change for a while too, but they came back to normal.

Looks OK to me, like the new "lighter" feel, hate the social icons floating on the left though, and the top logo needs work to blend in.

I know, I was a bit taken back when I made my first daily visit.

Me personally, it looks more refreshed and more "web 2.0" if you know what I mean.

My only problem with it is that its almost impossible now to spot threads I have comments in.

the old theme showed an arrow on the icon of threads I had comments in

For me it is still the same icon, a red folder with a arrow on it.

By the way, thanks to some fellaws above, I refreshed and the logo has changed. Still think that the "Register Here" could be a bit smaller, the button could be in the read bar, so it won't distanve the logo from the top.

Or make it a horizontal Call to action with the button on the right in stead of below.

Rest is OK with me and the icons are looking the same, don't see any difference other that their design could also be a bit refreshed to make it fit to the new design.

not for me using IE. just a red folder ...if its a popular thread I see the flame, but no arrow.

Just checked in firefox and that's the same no arrow to show I have a comment in that thread.

And that's a tad irritating, that saves me a lot of time searching for that arrow, I tend to only comment in threads I feel I can say something useful the rest get scrolled past. now I'm going to have to waste time scanning every thread title

It's supposed to be grayed out, with a star if you've commented, but it's not working. This thread is just showing as gray with a flame for me (Firefox). I have to hold the cursor over the icon to show up any thread I've posted in.

I have a theory about the gray star/fire icons, based on the threads in which I've posted. It seems the gray icon with the star gets overridden by the gray fire icon when the thread hits 20 replies or 500 views, even if you've posted in it.

Until then, at least in my browser, the star seems to be showing for commented-in threads.

Looks like there are a lot of people with different results...

Another issue I had after using the site for a while was irritation in my eyes, the red is too bright, don't know if that is the same red but it looked darker in the old WF. Can be just me getting older :-0

Would choose a slightly darker red, had to lower my screens brightness to stay.

The buttons lower right are really too big, almost annoying.

Don't understand why you guy's don't see the thread icons with the arrows, I refreshed today and still have them so can see where I have participation.

I don't like the new thread icons. They look too much alike. If it's a hot thread, just show a flame. If it's hot w/ no new post, show a blue flame.

The icons I the bubbles are just to hard to notice.

Font sizes are a few too many pts high for me.

Did the view last post in a thread functionality go away? Before, from a forum index, we could go directly to the last post in a thread but now it seems that this doesn't work.

Please tell me that the lack of that link is only part of the updating process and was not taken away.

        Alaister,

Somehow I'm not seeing it. I've cleaned my browser and tested in a couple different browsers.

The attachment shows what I'm seeing. For example, before I could click on a little icon or link (I forget already - getting old) next to your name on this thread and go immediately to your post which was the last post at the time of the screenshot. Now I'm not seeing that link or icon.

It's already been fixed. I guess it wasn't a leaderboard and the tech guys were simply doing some positioning changes of the "Become a Member" ad that made it look like a banner crowding in the logo. All good now!

The design is ok, but to be honest I don't like the font at all. Arial is too crowded. Verdana was designed specifically for computer screens and is much easier to read, in my opinion.

Several studies have shown that Verdana is the best screen font, and helps prevent CVS*. This is from one...

The study, which was carried out by Vision Ergonomics Research Laboratory and funded by Microsoft, said that using the right font could saving your eyes and protect you from disorders like the computer vision syndrome (CVS).
Scientists claim that Verdana is the best typeface - Correct all your screens now | TechEye

    *CVS (computer vision syndrome)
The most common symptoms of CVS are tiredness, sore eyes, eye strain, dry eyes, red eyes, fatigue, repeated headaches, burning in eyes, pain in and around the eyes, glare sensitivity, difficulties in focusing, excessive tearing, contact lens discomfort, double vision, periodic blurring of near and distant vision.

Since I suffer from CVS, this change to Arial is really bad news for me. Please consider changing back to Verdana.

    Looking good IMO

Just change the header with the logo. Integrate the logo into the red stripe and not have it on top of it taking away space.

Same with the signup button, can be in that red bar too.

Thread icons, agree that those can be improved to separate the different status.

I don't know what everyone's beef with the logo is. The top half is in the white and the bottom half on the red. Looks good. Put it all on the red stripe and have what? Blank white space?

There's a bug that I've noticed since yesterday. I get the notification that there's a new post and click on the link which should take me to the new post. It doesn't. For instance, there are two pages to this thread now and the link takes me to the first page. Same with yesterday. Had to manually go to the newest post in the thread. Kind of annoying.

That big link to 'register here' in the upper right shows even though I am logged in. It should not show for logged in users, it should either not show, or it should be a 'my account' link when a user is logged in. This is an amateurish mistake. Having the word "forum" in the red banner like looks kind of silly (but thats just me). Other than those 2 things I think the site looks fine.

Personally I don't have any problem with the layout - it is so similar to the old style that it hardly seemed worth making changes!

But I do find the font very hard to read. More thought on that by the designers is definitely required.

Having seen several different looks since the late 1990s (I know I'm dating myself), I'm used to change and this one doesn't seem drastic to me at all. Do I like it though? Sure, I like it and I'm sure I'll like it more a couple of weeks of now. I like the new look as well as the feel (the forum is much, much faster than it used to be from where I'm sitting).

I do concur with the font issue, Arial is also tough to read on my eyes. Though I'm sure I'll get used to that too.

I also found the new font uncomfortable, so I changed the default font in my Firefox browser to Verdana, and now I find the forum much easier on the eye.

If you're running Firefox, go to "Tools" -> "options" -> "content" and alter the font to your choice. Then be sure to hit "Advanced" and uncheck the box that says "Allow pages to choose their own fonts".

The only downside is that all sites will show your new default font, but if you spend a lot of time on the WF, it's a good workaround until the designers have a change of heart.

As someone said, it's lacking robustness. It looks too "soft" for the WF.

Maybe the border of each post should be a little bit darker.

And the buttons ("Edit", "Quote" etc) look too big (my attention goes to them in first place - may be a distraction). I would make them smaller and with a soft color that doesn't call the attention too much.

    Just my 2 cents.

I changed my font in Firefox also. Big improvement. Don't like the font changes at all.

I think the design is an overall improvement but there are some elements that are overdone. The biggest one of those is the chat icons used for folder icons. They are large and all red and instantly attract all the attention. Your eyes are drawn to them and continue to be drawn to them. They should not be that dominant. I'd suggest either going back to the original folder icons or creating a smaller icon that clearly differentiates between the folder states, and is not red. A shade of grey would be less overpowering. Red could be used for the flame in the hot topics.

The quote, multiquote, quick reply and thanks icons are too large.

    EDITED TO ADD

The thread titles are so bold, too bold. Probably the font you're using but again, it's overpowering. We can read them without all that bold text.

And that's a tad irritating, that saves me a lot of time searching for that arrow, I tend to only comment in threads I feel I can say something useful the rest get scrolled past. now I'm going to have to waste time scanning every thread title

      Frank
I agree that it is very irritating to not know which threads I have commented on before. I use Chrome and I don't see any arrow or graying out. I even held my cursor over the icon and nothing. I really hope this is something that gets fixed soon.

      YaniB

Edit: Now I see that if I leave my cursor on the icon of a thread that I know I posted in, this comes up:
"You have 1 post(s) in this thread, last 30th May 2014"
Only thing is, the icon for this thread looks just like the icon for any other 'hot' thread, with the red flame.
So now I still need to actually remember which thread I've commented on, or spend time keeping my cursor over each thread icon to see if anything comes up.

Why the faded out, ghosted Smilies? When communicating in an open forum, it is not always easy to tell how a person meant what they just typed. Smilies step in to give you a graphical depiction of how that person meant what they just said. Ghosting them and making them less obvious doesn't serve any useful purpose, particularly when you can barely see them now.
