Is this the IM game in a nutshell?

1. Create a free product. (EBook, video course, etc)

2. Create a sales funnel with a mix of free content and affiliate products.

3. Create a email opt in page for the Free Product.

4. Drive targeted traffic to the opt in page. (Yahoo ads, bing ads, Facebook, Google ads, forums, etc)

5. As people sign up they are sent down the sales funnel.

6. Rinse and repeat.

    1. It's not a game, but a method to conduct business.

    2. It's not a method that is specific to the Internet. Building a list of prospective buyers and presenting them with offers is the basics of sales and has been around since people started wearing shoes, maybe even earlier.

      1. Thanks for your response. Makes total sense.

      2. "Game" is just a figure of speech. Don't take yourself so serious dude. Lol.

While selling affiliate products for a commission would be a quicker way to start, you might want to consider creating your own products in the long run, for more control over your business.

So is blogging essential? Or could you just maintain contact through email?

This is ONE of the ways in which IM works, there are a lot of other ways. But yeah, you got that part right.

It's *one* model of the game, yes, one model.

      - Find a market
      - Find out what they want
      - Offer it to them

That's a better description of the game, because that also describes the offline marketing game.
The model you describe does the above, but it's not the only way to do it.

As for blogging, yes you could do it all via email, that's pretty much the way it was done before 2.0 and smartphones and wordpress, but since blogging increases your exposure potential so much more, who *wouldn't* you be blogging?

      Cheers,

Nope, not even close, but I'll still give you a cigar. That's one method of hundreds, if not thousands, of permutations on how a person can start either a money-maker or an online business.

Though your basic outline is used by many people and they do well with it. But bear in mind it's just one outline and one way of making money using the Internet.

To some maybe, but to me IM is just Internet Marketing and the spectrum is broad.

In biz today and for 10+ years and almost 20 if you're tech related, you used IM, meaning the Net in general to conduct 'business'.

Today almost any company uses IM to some degree to add revenue channels to their business.

As far as IM for most on WF, it may mean as above, but to say IM is this very limited definition isn't correct IMO.

Sure you can do as above to grab emails from freebies but many are bogus and the overall response isn't that great IMO, but making your products/services/brand visible on the Net is modern IM IMO.

    SMO
    SMM
    SEO
    PPC
    SEM

It's all part of 'IM' per se, but to define IM to just giving away freebies to develop a 'mail list' isn't really IM to me, even though email lists are an integral part of IM today.

No this is not IM in a nutshell.

    Product/Service + Buyer = Bank

There are so many variables and permutations that not even Stephan Hawkins could calculate an exact plan of action.

Fore instance I have never built a list in my "IM" life and it does annoy me when people suggest doing so. The fact is you can pick any product/service on the planet.. affiliate or not and with enough targeted traffic you will cash in.

The biggest factor in IM is ROI. Is promoting a product/service worth your time, money and effort?

Try building a list It was something funny to say but really, try it.. you could end up with great results. Especially if you already have some IM knowledge and know how to get traffic to the subscriber form.

Wow - the Warrior Forum must be insanely irritating to you, then, with so many hundreds of us making our livings primarily through email marketing?

Possibly not, but I'm sure Stephen Hawking could: he's a really brainy guy.

Why does it annoy you? We do it because it adds to our bottomline. In some niches, the profit increase is ten fold and that's no exaggeration.

Sure, you can make money without a building a list and in some business models it's not necessary or doesn't make sense, but when it does make sense and you can do it we veteran marketers suggest that others do too.

I'll use one of my niches, dating advice for men, as an example. On one website, I take a loss up front on the main product, which is priced under $10. However, with the marketing funnel I have set up using e-mail marketing, it brings in over 75% of the overall profits. For that kind of business model where I'm marketing over 25 products over a period of a year, not building a list would be foolish.

If you're a marketer who sends traffic to CPA offers, one could argue you don't need to build a list, since there are plenty of people making $300, $500, even $1,000 or more per day with that model. And that's fine.

Just wanted to point out that distinction and why some of us advise people to build a list.

Yes that is the same model that many courses rehash.
It's not the only way though. Incentive traffic for CPA offers does not require list building.
The most important part is building trust. You must come out as someone who is genuinely trying to help people.

actually, instead of coming out as someone who is genuinely trying to help people, better to *be* someone genuinely trying to help people! ;-)

Yes, Ofcourse, You must show your offer to interested buyers. Giving a free ebook is a great way to buid your list of interested buyers.

By building your list you are building your business.

It might be the same model for years, but that is the right business model.
