Deleting AOL emails from your list?

I was listening to a recording of an old (2010) seminar and someone in the audience mentioned in passing that some marketers delete AOL addresses on the theory that .... well, the audio was unclear. But I think the idea was that AOL does a bad job of actually delivering emails or is too quick to add senders to a spam database or something like that.

At any rate, has anyone heard of this before? It was certainly news to me.

Thanks.

Back in the day, most AOL subscribers would just hit the Spam button inside AOL mail instead of unsubscribing, messing up your statistics. I don't even know what AOL mail looks like now-a-days to say if it is even still possible.

AOL is one of the more obscure email providers, though some long time users swear by their email service (if only because they've used that service since the start back when AOL was an internet service provider). You have to make accommodations for all your email subscribers and work toward fixing any glitches which might keep them from getting your emails.

I still check my AOL mail, once a day, just in case. In addition to its free mail service, the company does still have millions of paid subscribers. I'm not a big fan of its spam filters, however, either for sending or receiving.
