Help! WishList not integrating with AWeber!

Hi all,

I purchased WishList to help me create a membership site based on the recommendation of Warriors here. It seems like a great product and their tech support has been very responsive to my questions. But now I've run into a BIG problem:

WishList isn't integrating with AWeber! I've done several test orders. The PayPal integration has gone beautifully, but the AWeber integration is NOT happening at all!

I have followed the instructions exactly. I'm not using an e-mail address that I use for either WishList or Paypal. It's a completely different email address and domain name.

I have the very latest version of WishList and am using WP 2.7. I haven't upgraded to 2.8 and don't want to hassle with it.

Yes, I've contacted WishList's tech support and all they could tell me was to 1) check the support docs (did that) 2) upgrade to the very latest version of WishList (did that) and upgrade to WP 2.8. I don't want to hassle with upgrading to the latest version of WP and besides, I don't see how it could be the problem.

I've used AWeber for some time and know I have to get a confirmation e-mail and then confirm. But I'm not even getting a confirmation e-mail!

And yes, I've turned on the e-mail parser.

And I'm tired of paying myself $1 for every test order and paying fees to PayPal to test!

Can someone help me out? One of the primary reasons I chose WishList is because it integrates with AWeber. I'm about to soft-launch a product and this is a MAJOR problem.

Has anyone else had this problem??? Any ideas???? Could it be a firewall or something else with my host?

I'd greatly appreciate any help you all can offer.

Thanks,
Michelle

I had the same problem, I did a bunch of test registrations.

The problem was I had the unsubscribe email the same for BOTH the free and paid levels. Which made the problem, so I just got rid of the unsubscribe email on both.

    That might be the fix...

We had the EXACT same issue, BUT only with email accounts associated with HostGator servers. Try a Google, Yahoo or Apple .me email address.

The issue is that AWeber handles "emailed" registrations differently than those entered directly into a form (WishList Member actually emails registrations to AWeber). The AWeber server that handles "emailed" registrations goes on and off the SpamCop list because it gets blasted apparently so HostGator 86s the confirmation emails. However, we did not have issues with any other ISP and registrations are working fine on our sites. The challenge is that anyone with a hosted account at HostGator will not be able to register on your site, but these numbers should be very, very small. I'm told that a fix is on the to-do list at AWeber. This is NOT the fault of programs like WishList that use this registration method with AWeber!

P.S. We've spent a LOT of time with all three parties so please post your results here for reference.

      Thanks guys.

I could try getting rid of the unsubsribe e-mail address, but I have no idea what that has to do with anything. I think I have to have an unsubscribe address, right? Are you saying it shouldn't be the same one for the different membership levels? I've set up two, but am really only using one.

      Leon,

Thanks for taking the time to respond. However, I don't use Hostgator. I'm with another company altogether. So how does that impact me? Could it be my host? How can I fix this? I'm really confused and very frustrated.

I DID e-mail AWeber and am awaiting their response. I'll let you know what they say.

      Any other thoughts?

You should have separate un-sub email addresses for each membership level because you should have ONE AWeber list per membership level. I recommend "unsub-" added to the "AWeber List Name" of each membership level:

        your-list-one@aweber.com = Aweber List Name 1

        your-list-two@aweber.com = Aweber List Name 2

        Then...

        unsub-your-list-one@yourdomain.com = Safe Unsubscribe Email 1

        unsub-your-list-two@yourdomain.com = Safe Unsubscribe Email 2

...and on and on for all membership levels.

I'm thinking your host may have the same issue so...

Make sure you've set-up the WishList Member integration just like it's shown in the Quick Start Guide #4 from the "Support Docs" area in the "WishList Customer Center"

    Then...

Try a Google, Yahoo or Apple .me email address before you do anything else! Use the "Add New Member" option under "WL Member » Manage Members". If this works then you know you've got your configuration correct.

Thanks for all of your help Leon.

The address I was using for testing purposes was a Yahoo address.

I'll look into it further when I get home tonight.

Michelle, another thought is that if you've used the same emails many, many times you may have triggered some safeguards at AWeber. Again, try a non-purchase with a throw away email address from Google etc...

    Hi Leon,

Would you please look at this 30-second video and see if you can tell me what I'm missing.

    screencast.com/t/MWEwMzFkNjkt

    customers.wishlistproducts.com/26-aweber-integration-wp27/

    Thanks so much,

    Barry Friedman

UPDATE: I found the answer in WL's support documents. Their video lesson shows an outdated Aweber interface, but the PDF shows the current interface.

For anyone looking it's still under List Settings but you list the Safe Unsubscribe Email under Subscriber Alerts.

PS... wouldn't let me post the URLs as links because I'm new... sorry.

  • Michelle - can you please share how you were finally able to get this to work?

    Anyone else who can help:

I know this thread is a little old but I've run into the EXACT same problem and am about to lose my mind. I've checked everything 100 times, and all integration is working fine except that Aweber is not sending the confirmation email (like Michelle's problem).

I have latest versions of everything, have tested this to death, only thing missing is the confirmation mail from Aweber is not being sent.

FWIW I'm using 1shoppingcart with Wishlist and Aweber. I'm able to send mails fine from Wordpress as is.

Can this be a problem with my host or something?

Any help is great appreciated, my cart goes live in 4 days!

    Cheers,
    Steve

I think that AWeber have a problem with sending out
their confirmation e-mails at the moment:

      http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post3642959

So, it's likely that this is the source of your problem
rather than any integration issues between AWeber
      and WishList Member.

WishList Member has been well integrated with AWeber
      for years.

      • Thanks a lot Shaun - that certainly explains it!

I had Profollow and it's being migrated to Aweber, so glad I'm not the only one seeing issues. Hopefully they can resolve it first thing tomorrow.

Some of my older existing lists are still working though, but it's these new lists I'm creating that are having problems (namely the wishlist-integrated ones).

Thanks again for the helpful response and links!

        Cheers,

A couple of the sites I have used with the aWeber/WishList lashup have stopped talking to one another for odd reasons. I wrote a custom filter that seems to have solved the problem and it is detailed on the attached PDF.

I have had some of the same issues as others have mentioned here, after several posts on the forum proved un-fruitful and there did not seem to be a focus on achieving a better product, I abandoned wishlist because it just did not meet our needs, that is not to say that it might not be somewhat useful for others, but there is a proclivity to miss the over "big picture" at wish list, more so in some of the ways that tend to cause issues like the above references, like multiple sales to the same email address and thus the same customer are not recognized and so the customer has to register over and over again, I could go on for a long time.

I just wanted to see a more friendly approach to design, so I went with a custom approach, nothing is perfect, not even when you wish for it to be.

Okay just so im clear on something. When creating the unsubscribe address where you mentioned yourname@yourdomain.com

This means I need to log into my hosting account and create a new email account for the unsubscribe list correct? I don't just type in a name for the email account on the wishlist members autoresponder intergration page correct?

I need to actually create the email address first than add it to the autoresponder intergration page correct?
