Question on video production costs

My daughter is a whiz at making videos. She can add all kinds of special effects, text scrolling across the screen, making objects appear and disappear, etc. A lot of these infomercials you see on marketers websites that are only a few minutes long, would be very easy for her.

I don't know much about it. But I thought if there was any money in it, and I could get her a little work, it would help out while she is going to college.

Any idea what people pay for this kind of work? Is the cost based on an hourly wage or the completed project? Just trying to figure if it would be worth offering this sort of thing.

Thanks,
Steve MacLellan

I would charge $20 per minute if your videos are as good as mine.

it depends. it can cost anything. Animated explainer videos costs $200 to $500. Whiteboard animation videos costs less. it all depends on complexity of the project. A full video creation includes script creation, illustrations, animation, voice over, sound effects, stock images and footages so roughly it costs $200 to $500.

It's awesome that she/you are entertaining the idea. Certainly it can be lucrative and at the same time delivering real value for your customers. I have noticed however that it has become a much more competitive field than it used to be. I believe this is in part due to software products that now do whiteboarding style videos automatically, and the ability to get inexpensive voice-overs.

My suggestion would be that she find a bit of niche and offer a big value add of *understanding* the subject matter, allowing clients to only need to give the broadest of concepts/ideas, and then she has the ability to run with and product a finished product.

    Good luck

Hi, the cost would be depend on the video itself, I am Selim from Video Production Company | Online Web Animation Services San Antonio, Texas and it usually take 3k - 5k for an animated video and animated video marketing with length at 1.5 - 2.5 minutes. The hourly usually just for maintenance (SEO, further consultation). Consider professionalism in it as it will be just wasting time if even if you have great video but no viewers.

I just tried to look at her video and was blocked.

Have her look at what people are charging for similar skills on fiverr and try a gig to see what it is like.

Please, don't suggest she works for $20 a minute. Good video can run into the thousand dollar range per minute. I've seen people with little imagination and short on creativity pulling in a couple hundred per minute. It all depends on how she positions herself and the type of clientele she goes after. Keep her out of the low rent venues and she can make a fortune.
