How to launch business software on a 15K marketing budget?

If you were launching a new business software product, to be sold via resellers (and hopefully that via a distributor to the resellers), and you had a marketing budget on $15,000.-?
This is considering that you should build up a channel as well as get interested end customers.
I'm thinking both off- and online

Thanks.

Regards,
Thomas

I wonder how much actual beta testing you have already done. If it were me, I would probably identify some real prospects that I could get into the beta program, and presell them. So part of my investment would be on contacting beta participants, and getting them using the software, including excellent customer service, and rapid response to bug fixes and improvements. Then you'll some presold customers as well as testimonials.

Then I would use some of the success stories to expand my marketing effort which would involve the telephone for sure.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

Is this for a vertical market? Or is it a general purpose app? How mature is the market you are entering as obviously the more mature and more competing existing products there are the harder it will be. Tell us what it is!

It is better if you go for some beta testing for your software. Beta testing will give you the market response. So you will know how you software will work for your investment.

Thanks for the replies. It is for a very mature market. Actually an add-on for this market, but with relatively little direct competition. Some indirect competition though.

Ok well I sell add-ons to products in a mature market (accounting software) so tend to do very focused marketing which works very well. What I tend to do is scour the web for companies that fit my intended target and email them (cold) and still get a response.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.

Gary, In Denmark, where we are based, that would be considered spam, so I can not follow that option. Do you sell directly or via resellers?

Indigo, thanks for the link. I know softwareceo, but the other one is new to me, so I'll check that out.

Ideasuniversity, can you tell me a bit more, and have you used it to successfully build up a reseller channel?

The software is to be sold via resellers/VARs throughout the world. What we'd also like is to get deals with distributors, so that they can handle some of the reseller management issues.

    Thanks.

    Regards,
    Thomas
