Need to think of a brand name

by bsurb
60 replies
Iv been trying to think of a one-two word brand new that fits nice with the life style scene. A name that will represent streetwear clothing well.

Examples are:

Supreme
Classy
Deny
Nifty
DGK
Fancy

These one words are a lot more competitive but I was hoping I could get some feedback or ideas and maybe I can put something together. All suggestions are appreciated!

There is already niftybrand.com I contacted them today and they got an offer of $ xxx, xxx so I turned away lol. I love the nifty word but I dont know if I can register that name...

Skinnyboy.com I came up with since im small and skinny. Its my clothing line and my designs but I do understand on the other half it could cause trouble if big people come across it. They would be turned away right? My clothing wouldn't necessarily be for little people.

I don't know, either. (I'd want professional legal advice before trying it, myself.)

Just my 2 cents...you can't try and advertise to everyone since you're not that big of a brand yet. Focus on a specific market first and make a splash before catering to all.

Trust me, it's better to turn people away and just concentrate on that 5% who understands your message than please everyone. For one thing, it makes your marketing campaign more focused.

Because advertising wise, that's a nightmare waiting to happen.

Among all those you listed, skinnyboy actually jumped out because for one, it's specific. And second, since I'm on the skinny side myself, it felt like something I would buy even if I haven't seen your marketing yet.

I'm not a big fan of nifty.

I'd look for a more stylish/unique/brandable brand like:

    Young & Reckless
    Subcrew
    Flying Coffin
    F***ing Awesome
    Fuct
    UNDFTD
    a[ny]thing
    Brknhome

LOL I really like some of those brand names.

OP, what do you mean by lifestyle brand? What kind of lifestyle are you trying to portray with your clothing line? Rebellious? Chill? Success? Money over everything? Skate? Rock? There are millions of lifestyles.

Also, who is your target market? Teens? Young adults? College students? A mix of all three?

Those two questions will go a long way in helping you create a brand name. I'm assuming you're looking for something similar to you and your personality that you can realistically market as the owner.

Here are a few (wacky) ideas that I've been part of kicking around.

[EDITED NOW THAT I KNOW WHAT THE OP IS LOOKING FOR AND THIS MAY NOT BE THE MOST APPROPRIATE FORUM FOR ALL IDEAS]

But I'm done rambling. It'll be easier when we know what you're looking for.

      Gambino,

I realize I'm an old guy and not a part of the "street smart" generation, but to be perfectly honest, I'm disgusted by several of these domain name suggestions. Not only are they tasteless, but I'm sure there are search engines, retailers, and prospects that will want nothing to do with these "brands."

Nothing against you personally, but I find it ill-advised to build a business selling to young people around a brand that wreaks poor taste.

      Just my 2 cents.

No offense taken as these aren't brand suggestions. These are or were actual brands. What I was noting, was the brand-ability of those streetwear brands.

          Gambino,

Thanks for your explanation - that makes sense.

          For the OP,

I stand by what I said . . . I think it is important to build your brand around something that has "class" and is in good taste. You will be taken more seriously if you present a professional and high quality image.

Thanks for the posts guys. Im going to be surrounded by the music scene, skate, bmx etc.

Example of a brand is called supreme. All of their cclothes is similar to what I want. Or young and reckless.

Im going to be targeting all ages but mainly younger teens..

Also I wouldnt mind adding cult. Or culture. Or something like that into the name

I'm not here to try to sell anything at all, but to suggest a name I just happen to have but have not used it. I now have some serious health issues and would be willing to speak with you, probably better by pm if you want to. It's very brandable and easy to remember it's called

Good luck, if you are going with a two word brand name it is going to be a lesser of a name as all the good names are already taken if you plan to register the .com.

I think you will find all three-letter combinations are already registered and most likely all those of 4 letters, I think you will have to buy a premium domain if you want to go that route.

With deference to Steve B's sensible reply above, (I think I'm older than he is, if not I look it)

For the age group you are targeting, I suggest something outrageous.. remember FCUK.
      It was/is massive.

Why not post a naming competition in a place where there are a lot of youngsters, like Fark or somewhere, sorry I'm tired and cannot think of anything myself at present.

      BTW
Alexa, 'nifty' is most definitely an English word in common usage.

Iv tried and tried thinking. If I think of something good, I type it in on google and there is always something similar or a domain with the same word in it.

Loudboy.com is up for auction for like $5K. I want to find a name where it doesn't have apparel or clothing in the domain like the example there. But if I couldn't I wouldnt mind using something like LoudBoyClothing.com

Even though there is a LoudBoys.com but their clothing style isnt anything near mine.
