I'm New and Can't Make a Decision

Okay, so I just want to DO something, but I don't want to waste my time.

I'm a newbie, yeah I've bought a domain here and there in the past 3 years and made some money with shady CPA locked content, but I want to get serious.

I have the motivation, and I feel like I can keep my motivation until I succeed. In fact, I've been working really hard for the past 3 weeks even though I have been all over the place and just random.

I've already spent too much money in the past few weeks because of my indecisiveness and tendency to rush things. So like $700 on domains/themes/aweber/backlinks/logos/advertising. But it's been poorly planned.

Right now here's where I'm sitting:

Domains:

alphadogtreats.com (no traffic, amazon affiliate WP site with bazar theme, incomplete...)
freeanimeepisodes.com (no traffic, nothing done yet)
moepolice.com (no traffic, anime blog, design pretty much complete, few blog posts)
ntshows.com (no traffic, few thousand backlinks, some edu links, installed $40 movie theme)
watch[insertmovietitlehere]online.com (no traffic, purchased two PR3 links, complete with movie locked with CPA)
watch[insertanimehere]online.com (no traffic, nothing done)
lifteatsleep.com (nothing done, I hope to make this a money site or a blog in a fitness blog network)
cardiocalories.com (nothing done yet...)
gosocialsubmit.com (PR3, 10000 BL, 500 referring domains, nothing done yet)
healthyoatmeal.net (nothing done yet...)
flextheme.net (like 5 uniques a day... sells PLR content, wordpress installs, no sales...)

Hosting:

Hostgator:
All except two domains

Bluehost:
ntshows.com and cardiocalories.com

Funds available: $2000

Revenue: $0

Expenses: $52 a month
Aweber: $20
Backlinks: $12
hosting: $20

So yeah, you see, made some bad choices, maybe some good?
With what I have here, do you think there's anything I could focus all of my efforts on?
Honestly I'd love to use my second hosting and make a blog network in the fitness niche.. the fitness or weightlifting niche is something I could see myself putting all my efforts into, I do love to lift.

I might like to create my own products in the weight lifting niche, maybe outsource some software like fitness calculators or something. Do you think any of my domains are a good "brand" for my fitness network or should I think of something?

Also, I made a Wordpress site for my parents' business that does $10,000 in sales a month on 50% profit margins... not trying to brag but just saying that maybe I could concentrate on a WP business? Anyone have any experience there?

Thanks so much for any help!

You have tried out a lot my friend. Shall I tell you the reason of your failure? You have worked out too many things at the same time. In IM, You must work smart, Not hard. Now Just choose the best one site from the above list and work on it continuously for atleast 3 months. Build your list, create quality content and bring in a lot of traffic. You will succeed.

Well I don't think I have failed yet... I haven't tried anything. All of those things I listed above are things I just started.

I'm just looking for someone to agree with on what I should concentrate on.

      Thanks.

To be such excited its not your fault as you are a newbie. But remember one thing making money in online field is not childs play . There are people who are struggling for more than 5 years.

In your case first return all things who's guarantee period is still valid . And now focus on one thing only. ONE niche only and work on that, working on many projects at one time can make you loose all your investment.

Sounds a lot like your jumping the gun with all these ideas
what you need to focus on is only one niche. minimize your investments if your short on funds.

Don't worry, its natural to jump the gun and be a risk taker; some of the most successful marketers had to make a fare share of errors to become successful. You live and learn bro

My advice would just be a re-iteration of what has already been said. Focus on one thing. Do things everyday to help that ONE thing succeed.

I feel like you already know where to go.. you say you have a passion for fitness. Start a fitness blog. Brand yourself well, create a nice name and logo. Maybe then you can also find an athletic clothing wholesaler and promote some gym shirts, tanks etc with your logo on them through social media and other forms of advertising.

I think this helped clear a lot up for me in my head, I'll probably go with this. It's an exciting feeling to know what I am gonna stick with and concentrate on, thanks

First step would be to think of a name then?

Sounds to me that you have a niche that's evergreen, is a proven money maker online, AND that you're passionate about...aka the stuff that I bolded and especially underlined in the above quote. And you have a couple ideas on how you could monetize the niche, which puts you a couple steps ahead of a lot of people (newbies and non-newbies alike).

Lifteatsleep.com sounds good to me, but if I were you I'd still brainstorm to see if I could come up with something better and even catchier.

Most people go about doing this business backwards. They find an idea, build a website, and then try to find an audience and buyers.

If you are clever, you find the buyers first, then build a website around what they already want to buy.

You appear to have gone about this backwards.

You should start out with the intent of finding a group of buyers and a set of products those folks will buy from you. Then you should focus your activities on those things that you have a proven buyer base.

AND this is important, focus on one thing until you find success. Don't jump to another idea, until you have mastered the first.

I have to agree with tpw. Yes, your passion is important, but if there are not buyers out there for what you are passionate about - your business simply won't grow. The fitness industry is great IF you can narrow it down to something that solves people's problems or gives them a pleasure they have not had before. Do some more research and see what is trending positively in the fitness area. Then combine your passion with a product or service that has low competition but a specific demand. The idea is to present your product or service to a small, but hungry group of buyers. It is much better to find 100 real buyers and sell to 20 of them then contact 10,000 potential buyers and sell to 2 of them. Make sense?

    That's also an enormous asset.

Apologies in advance, here, because as a hobby-domainer, myself, I'm going to offer some semi-unsolicited/caustic/snarky comments about your domain-names, because I know that you know me well enough not to take them personally.

alphadogtreats.com : I don't know the niche, have no interest in it and wouldn't have paid reg-fee for it.

freeanimeepisodes.com : doesn't look bad? Maybe possible to monetize?

    moepolice.com : don't understand this one.

ntshows.com (no traffic, few thousand backlinks, some edu links, installed $40 movie theme): don't understand this, either. It must stand for something I've never heard of?

Important: don't buy .edu links for these reasons (and because Google might smell a rat?): http://www.warriorforum.com/search-e...ml#post5994962 <--- read it

watch[insertmovietitlehere]online.com (no traffic, purchased two PR3 links, complete with movie locked with CPA): maybe trademark/merchandising/brand/rights problem, here? Be careful.

watch[insertanimehere]online.com (no traffic, nothing done) : same as the one above.

lifteatsleep.com (nothing done, I hope to make this a money site or a blog in a fitness blog network): maybe has some potential, maybe for "ludic dreaming" niche? Not great, though: "lifeasleep.com" much better than "lifeatsleep.com".

cardiocalories.com (nothing done yet...) : I've seen worse.

gosocialsubmit.com (PR3, 10000 BL, 500 referring domains, nothing done yet) : no good, I think. Poor name. I wouldn't have paid reg-fee for this. PR and backlinks don't change that.

healthyoatmeal.net (nothing done yet...) : seems reasonable, but only .net and someone else owns the .com. Very limited value.

flextheme.net (like 5 uniques a day... sells PLR content, wordpress installs, no sales...) : WordPress-related, I suppose? No trademark/rights issues?

Well, you're all over the place, but you know this already and that's why you're asking for help.

You need to choose one business model, stick to it, and drop everything else, in my opinion.

Nobody else can choose it for you.

Difficult, competitive niches. Far from ideal for a "first niche", in my opinion. Ok, I know it isn't quite your "first niche" because you made a great site for your parents and it's doing really well, but "first niche of your own", if you like? not my choice. (Easy for me to say: they're not exactly girl's niches ).

How would you monetize? Affiliate marketing? Own product(s)?

    You need a plan.

    And to stop spending money!

Seriously: to earn money online, you need to stop buying things and start selling something. You know this, really, right?

I think you need to start by deciding what you want to do for a living.

What sort of business do you want to own?

Do you want to do affiliate marketing or be a vendor?

Here are 10 reasons why being an affiliate might be better for you.

You have to "get yourself organized". You need a plan. Something that you can concentrate on to the exclusion of everything else. Happy to discuss it with you, if I can help. But I know only about affiliate marketing, really, not all this other stuff. And I know nothing about fitness and currently weigh about 92 pounds so count me out for the weightlifting, too.

Sounds like you have real talent in that direction? My only reservation about that is that thousands of people do it and that drives the prices down. It's perhaps a little like "article-writing as a service" in that however good you are at it, it perhaps isn't easy to be well-paid out of it, because the big market is all at the bottom end of the price-range? You still need marketing-skills, to promote your own services.

I've posted more than you did, now, in this thread, and I don't know if I've helped you at all.

Sounds like you have real talent in that direction? My only reservation about that is that thousands of people do it and that drives the prices down. It's perhaps a little like "article-writing as a service" in that however good you are at it, it isn't easy to be well-paid out of it, because the big market is all at the bottom end of the price-range?

I've posted more than you did, now, in this thread, and I don't know if I've helped you at all.
Um, WOW. Thank you so much for taking all of that time to write out such detailed advice.

Yeah, that business from my parents isn't bad at all, it's just that it's not mine, haha. Half the traffic to the site comes from searches people make after seeing the Ebay and Amazon products. I just built the site.

Thanks for the opinions on all of the domains.
The one that you said was lifeatsleep is lifteatsleep, like a weightlifting blog. But meh.
And moepolice is an anime blog because 'moe' means really cute in japanese anime.

Awh I have bad hosts? Never had a problem with HG in 3 years and Bluehost seems nice.
And I have two because I was gonna try blog networking.

The $2000 is just a little money I've saved from my day job, which is the air force.

You're right, I need to think about what I REALLY want to do.
I think I like to sell things, so there's that.

      Thanks so much! <3

Yes, I know what you mean. But it still shows that you've "produced value" and "done something that works and makes money", and you're fully entitled to feel good about that.

Ach, sorry, I managed to mis-read that one.

I know, I know. I have Hostgator hosting myself and have never had a real problem in 5 years, now. But their service is undeniably getting worse, and customer support is much slower than it was. I see posts all over the place about these EIG people and all the damn hosting companies they've taken over and messed up, and I plan to move at some point (not looking forward to it at all, but better to be inconvenienced that way than wait too long and have a real problem with them, like so many others, recently? It's all second-hand information, granted, but there's an awful lot of it!).

Yes, you have that going for you as well. And a uniform.

Hi Znightmare, Lexy was absolutely right --- your WordPress project is something to be really proud of! Well done! If I may, I'd like to make a suggestion. Find a mentor who will advise you and guide you every step of the way. There are lots out there. A mentor won't coach you for free, but whatever you pay will be small change compared to the amount of money he or she will help you make. After many years of struggling on my own and not getting anywhere except further into debt, I finally realized a few weeks ago that the ONLY way I had any hope of succeeding was to find a mentor. Keep smiling!
