I believe that cartoons are really special, but when you can make very good ones.

If you can imitate Disney’s work this is the best option.

Someone on Twitter once tweeted the funny ad of a potato chips company. Their beautiful short story in a cartoon movie made everyone fall in love with their (simple) product.

We have a guy out here in Canada called the `Cashman` whome has a local business that have people trading in gold for cash. His commercials are some of the wackiest you`ll ever see...he`s like

`Trade in gold for cash....Ohhhh YEAAA` and he created this really low budget bling bling music video. I only remember it cause it was catchy but im sure he had a ton of business coming in.

      These ideas are great!

How about wacky ideas for email marketing to improve open rate on emails and max CTR on ads?

For example, I remember a guy who was teaching some tricks like this several years ago that were working very well for him and his students. I wish I saved what he wrote online. He had email titles such as "Work with us for 2 months and we'll guarantee you'll make at least $2.50!" Tons of people opened that email or Craigslist ad and he would say something like he's just kidding about the $2.50. You opened the ad didn't you? Tons of people opened it because of curiosity. I did. And then he explained he had tons of tricks like that that he would teach. I am looking for stuff like that that you guys know about. Could be both online or offline. I am working on a list of fun / creative ideas that can help all types of businesses.

Does anyone remember The Rich Jerk? It was online several years ago. I think this guy made tens of millions, and a lot of people made a killing with his affiliate program. I wonder what happened to him? I thought he had a wonderful thing going?

nude chicks handing out sample icecream - to walkers buy (especially guys LOL).

Well not nude...but skimpy blonde bikini girls, handing out sample icecream outside an icecream shop that was going broke.

VERDICT: When we did this, the icecream shop basically sold out the weeks after. LOL.

Going broke? haha the weeks in advance, they could not keep up with the customer demand, especially the boys, asking when the girls will be back. HAHA> LOL

Fun style of marketing. Really works.

I think I remember a real smart IMer many years ago used to send snail mail to tons of employees of various businesses. The letter used to say something like this "Dear employee, your job sucks! Join me, etc., etc." Does anyone know who I am talking about? The guy was real sharp in both online and offline recruiting like this. But I don't even remember his name now.

I have always been fascinated by Truly Nolen pest control company. They became a multi-million dollar multi-national company mostly because of their cars, which looked like mice scurrying around town. They also used to buy beautiful antique cars and park them on busy street corners with the Truly Nolen signs on them. Real creative guys!

I know that humor or wackiness in marketing really does work. Humor gets people out of the hypnosis they're in and get's them to take notice. Even Virgin Atlantic and the Virgin line of companies. I think that's real creative and I think that Sir Richard Branson's fortunes are largely due to the Virgin name. It gets men to start thinking crazy thoughts! Usually people don't expect sexy Virgins to be offered by an airlines unless it's the hostesses? (Which guy hasn't been attracted by an air-hostess?) But I'm sure many guys think maybe they do offer them. So subconsciously, they're turned on. I know I am or was. It's a lot more exciting for an airline name than Southwest. It's different and that's what attracts people. How about Hooters chain of restaurants? Men think that if they eat at Hooters they will get a lot more of young, sexy. hot Hooters! So it's fun thinking this way. That's what people want more of, fun!

What if we created a large list of such wacky marketing ideas? Do you think that would be useful to help people think outside of the box, more creatively? Many of these kinds of ideas have made millions! Have you seen or can you think of more?

I am trying to test out some marketing concepts based on fun which I think will be very useful for online marketing, and can get pretty big if done right.

The reason I am thinking in this area is because I watched some great videos. One of these videos is Mastery of Money by an Australian author named Stuart Wilde. I found the video fantastic!

In this Mastery of Money video, Stuart talks a lot about how to inject Life Force energy into any business using little known out of the box ways. He gave around 10 tips.

One of the points Stuart makes in the video is that the product you choose for your business does not need to be totally unique. But you have to think about it in a way that is totally unique and interesting (similar to Virgin Atlantic in the airline industry.)

The product or service has to be unique, fresh & interesting and give your customers a nice feeling that this is different. You don’t need an absolutely revolutionary product or an incredible plan or go to business school. What you need is a shift in your consciousness regarding your business and a shift in your dedication. The product or service has to be something that you love, something that you live and breathe. When you want to serve the community, you’ve got to be good at it. You’ve got to put in as much energy as you can feasibly put into it. You must brainstorm creative and fresh ideas for your business.

Stuart gave several examples. He said even if you are a plumber, you can do it differently or creatively. How about a plumber that also has some aspects of a clown (he doesn’t have an outward appearance of a clown). He pops out of a unique vehicle and wears a unique, colorful uniform. He has a song and dance routine or a slogan that makes people feel better or more confident. The point is you must brainstorm and see what is workable. What will make your business and product unique, fresh and interesting to the customers?

He gave the example of a pizza parlor. Even if there is a row of 17 pizza parlors, you can make yours the most interesting. You can create a hole 20 feet deep that has alligators in it and a rickety bridge and waterfall. Think, brainstorm on what may work. Most people don’t do this. When you do this, you will soon have zero competition.even if there are 16 other pizza parlors on the same street.

Get in the customers shoes and identify with how they feel. Do they feel Wow, this is cool or do they feel this guy is doing the job to get his paycheck or to get my money? Most people out there do it for the paycheck. Very very few are really creative and enjoy what they do and give people a good feeling.

So it doesn't matter if your industry is dull or lifeless. It's the way you think that may make it interesting or not. This idea can apply to plumbing. It can apply to pest control. Or online biz.

What I described is just one of his 10 points to inject Life Force energy. If you want to read the other 9 which are excellent, or you want to see the video, see my other WF post here: http://www.warriorforum.com/mind-war...-business.html I am in the process of testing out some of these ideas, which I think are super!

I also want to include Tip #2 here.
    2. You put “you” into the equation. That is how you make it totally unique and interesting. People are willing to pay more for something that makes them feel inspired or gives them a good experience even for a few minutes.

Do you guys know if Virgin Atlantic charges more than other airlines? I know they are all about giving people a feeling and people are willing to pay more if they feel good even for a moment or a short while.

I saw a direct mail piece that was targeted to the CEO of the company. CEO would open up the mail piece, and see a "future" news story about himself in a very nice framed case, talking about how the CEO made a tremendous breakthrough and is helping the community. Then at the end of the news piece there was a post-it note with a phone number on there telling them if they want to make this news piece reality... give them a call.

Back in the day when vinyl records were popular:
    • Alice Cooper had a pair of woman's underwear as an album cover.
    • The original Rolling Stones' Sticky Fingers album had an actual zipper as a "fly" on a pair of jeans on the cover.
    • Cheech and Chong had an album called Big Bamboo that included a giant rolling paper.
I read there was a company on a beach boardwalk that gave out thongs for your feet that had their company name engraved on the bottoms so when people walked on the sandy beach the thongs would imprint their company name into the sand.

There's a marketing technique called "barnumizing" named after PT Barnum that is to make something so outrageous that it draws attention which we see all the time, such as very expensive slices of pizza, world's biggest donut, etc.

I checked out that toilet plumbing truck and reached the company owner in Halifax NS. He asserted he generates about 100 calls a week, 50 from repeat customers and 50 from "word of mouth" primarily the truck. It has received publicity around the world. He said it cost him $600 to have the truck wrapped with his photo, and he changes it once every five years or so. So, for less than $100 a year, virtually unlimited leads.

But unfortunately the story doesn't quite add up. Me and my company's Nova Scotia-based publisher (I won't post links here in case the internal links are seen as rule breaks on this forum) noticed his email address associated with the local community college. So I called him back, and asked him about the email reference.

In the second interview, he said he is now a full time pipe trades instructor at the college, and has mostly wound down the business, working the odd evening and weekend call. Why give up a lucrative business with unlimited leads for a college teaching career? "I'm getting too old," he said.

Since he wasn't exactly forthright with me about his current business state in my first conversation with him, I would take his leads claims with a grain of salt. On the other hand, even if the concept results in only 1/10th the results, it seems like a winner to at least give it a try if you are in a plumbing or similar trades business. I mean, how much will $600 in marketing budget really buy you.

I can see your frustration with this person as he could have been fibbing the first time to get more exposure or hoping you were from some newspaper. When pressed on the issue, he seems to have been a little more forthcoming. Although maybe he was referring to past experience with the truck.

Still, I would not discount having a work car or truck wrapped or painted in a unique way to market a local product. Like you said, it's super cheap for marketing purposes and should be a tax write off.
