help with wordpress theme - best one for beginner?

So I'm working on creating my own website, using youtube and teaching myself! It's going to take me forever but I will do it. The part I'm stuck on right now, is the theme. I was going with 2014 and found a great youtube tutorial but just don't know if that magazine style works for a business and blog. I'll be selling products and not sure I like the huge pictures, even though I'm sure I can adjust all that, I'd rather go with a theme that is newbie friendly but still looks professional. I'm appealing to moms and it should be kid like? I would rather just go with a theme through wordpress, unless there are some really great choices that are reasonably priced? Thanks for your help!

There would be so many great themes to choose from in Wordpress. I will not recommend you to purchase one. You need to try each theme and see for yourself if what would work best for you. That's what I did with my website's theme (wordpress).

You should look at Theme Forest. There are many themes with site builder incorporated. It makes the site building extremely easy!

There's thousands of themes to choose from, but for a complete beginner I suggest you stick with any of the WP default themes, the reason is that just about every possible customization it's possible to do with these themes has been documented online, either in the Wordpress.org forum or elsewhere and there are dozens of YT videos as well.
The WP boffins know these themes backwards and they are used as the basis for many other themes.

Failing that go for a well-developed paid theme with support, i.e. Studiopress, Woo, Thesis and you won't go far wrong once you master the basics, All of these themes are properly coded by experts.

I always suggest the Mystile theme. I have a TON of articles on customizing it, and there happens to be a TON of videos my partner did. Just do a Google search for "Mystile theme" you will find all the info on how to make look and feel the way you want to.

  • For e-commerce, I would suggest using WooThemes. They're easy to use and the free themes and pretty basic, perfect for beginners.

Less is more. Keeping it simple takes time and effort.
