Hi what to do if some of your subscribers keep pressing the
spam button on their inboxes?

I have identified some idiots keep pressing the spam button
and don't bother to use the unsubscriber link, do you know
how to deal with these people?

  • If you are using a popular auto-responder such as Getresponse or Aweber- then they will take care of the spam problem so that you don't get blacklisten from their ISP. So I would not worry about it.

    This is one of the biggest reasons that you should not use your own response system...

      Hope you're using a double opt-in process:

      Your emails can also have a blub that let's people know that they double opted-in to your newsletter but if they want to un-subscribe please scroll down to the end of this newsletter and do so.

  • I am using Aweber Jeff thanks for your advice anyway... those persons I think are those who don't want to listen to me but are too lazy to unsubscribe..
  • Since you've already gone to the trouble of identifying these people, why not just unsubscribe them yourself, manually?
  • I thought aweber automatically unsubscribed those who identified your email as SPAM.

    by the way, how didd you identify those folks who area calling your stuff SPAM?
  • Hi John I don't know their email addresses exactly I just know some one presses the spam button which shows in one of my aweber accounts. That's what I think , add a blurb there Thanks TLTheLiberator

    • If a user presses "Spam" aWeber unsubscribes them. So, if you have 1 user hitting the spam button every time you send an email, it's a different 1 user every time.

    It sounds like you are experiencing this often?

    There are idiots out there that hit spam instead of delete - or spam instead of
    Unsubscribe............

    But if this happens a lot.........................

    Shouldn't you be evaluating the effectiveness of your newsletter?
    Are you being interesting enough?
    Are you being valuable enough?
    Are you sending too often?

    If you are getting a lot of spam complaints, maybe your subscribers are more
    disgusted than stupid. They are potential customers, so if they think of you as
    spam you might have some issues of your to work on.

    • Yes, zoobie let us face up to ourselves before we call the subscriber an idiot, we didn't make a mistake somehow? What kind of relationship is between your subscribers and you? If they have a complaint maybe there is a reason for that. Did you try to ask them what they disapprove of? Did you ask them in what would be necessary you to provide more for them?

      I know that the correct business managing isn't know idiot subscriber who may be your customer. I have more than two decades' business experience booth offline and online. And I also know that there is nothing without a reason. So I'd like to suggest to analyze your part -- in all certainty you'll find some to develop. It is worthy always.

  • @sal I only email them once a day and possible everyday. Sometimes twice a day and that's it.

    • zoobie, if you're mailing once or twice a day, you'd best have some darn good content. If it's an endless parade of product pitches, you're going to tick people off - unless you promised to send them product pitches once or twice a day when they signed up.

      If I signed up for a weekly newsletter, and I got a daily pitch, I'd think about hitting the spam button myself because the sender would not be sticking to what they promised. The weekly newsletter is what I signed for, the daily pitches are spam.

      I'm not saying that my illustration is what you're doing. I'm not on your list, so I don't know. But it is food for thought...

      How closely does what you are sending your list match what you told your subscribers you would be sending when they signed up?
    • What? I will get tired if I get mail daily honestly except if you are going to provide me content which I will be looking forward to everyday. Else, keep the gap to 4 to 5 days apart.

      Anyway, nice to find someone from hong kong too
  • One problem I've noticed, because I've hit the spam button a few times like this, is that the title of the email looks spammy or the sending name is different from the name I recall from the sign-up.

    For example, you send an email with the title "**** Berry Secrets" I'm probably going to hit the 'spam' button out of reflex even if I want to subscribe to your newsletter.
  • If you're sending out emails everyday or twice a day, I'd definitely consider cutting back unless you have a very good reason for it. Even though the average person who posts on the WF realizes that you can simply click a link to unsubscribe, many people who join newsletters don't know this and won't read the fine print that tells them they can do it. If they're receiving 1-2 emails from you each day, some of them are eventually just going to hit the spam button to end what they perceive as an endless onslaught of emails.
