EDUTAINMENT - "As Eben Put It..."

So yes, cool guy, Eben Pagan mentioned a word in one of his training sessions "Edutainment",

If you're unfamiliar with it, We're talking about using entertainment in educating... and then most certainly using that as a marketing approach.

I was hoping to share some ideas on this and see what is your take on this, any experience? Results??

Personally, I've always taken teaching as a powerful marketing and pre-seller. It works great and increases conversion when done right. We can see some of the big guys like Frank K is doing and more of it with his videos. Doing the fun "entertaining" thing, and then going on to educate, finally to sell more stuff.

So they are doing it, I'm been doing a bit of it, but I've noticed better results in conversion when there is a bit of fun involved, istead of the more traditional "direct hard selling".

Let's get some ideas down here, and I'm ready to learn a thing or two!

I think it works well for people with the right personality for it but not everyone does have it.

Agreed, not everyone is great in front of the camera, but there are a few other ways to entertain and educate at the same time.

      - Funny pictures/videos
      - Entertaining emails
      - Audio
      - Humorous related stories

That's just a few ways to inject humor and entertainment into your marketing, I'm sure there are plenty more.

I certainly can't argue with the success of Mr. Kern and Eben.

      Hope This Helps!!

Yep, that's true. But I think there must be loads of people that would do great at it, if they would be a bit more confident. Like with everything else, there are people that are doing that should not be doing it, and vice verse!

If you think of youtube, there are some rediculous vids there that gets thousands of views... and that's some nut generating ent.

When you think of entertaining while educating, it's not just about telling jokes, but also weaving in a storyline. Not all movies are funny, but some of the best have great story lines.

Hilarious that Eben used that word.

    He's def. educational. But entertaining?

Kern is the master of Edutainment. Moffat is great as well. Great blend of personality and content and characters.

If someone lacks personality they should stick to swiping energy from videos, graphics as mentioned above.

For the individual can pull it off, there's no better rapport builder than a natural connection and "charisma." And for the most part it's not a formula. The person who is naturally funny, authentic and likable has the advantage and it is tough to fake (unless you're psychotic).

    Content + a Likable Character = Edutainment

In a recent episode of the Marketing Online Live podcast, Paul Colligan referred to it as "lean forward" learning vs. "lean back" learning.

Lean forward is sitting at the computer. Intensive.

Lean back is on the sofa watching the tv.

    Different modes.
