I will attest that blogging frequently in a niche topic will get you on the first page of Google. The article submissions, Squidoo, HubPages, forum posting, blog commenting, press releases, and other link building are really good also. I'm on the first page of Google for a few niche terms, but still not getting as much traffic as I'd like.

I'm getting more inclined to PPC though, only because you can buy really cheap keywords and point the ad back to your sales page, or an affiliate sales page.

There are a lot of great free ways to get traffic. Social Networks, press releases, forums (like this one), blogs just to name a couple.

You are correct! Targeted traffic is much better and certainly worth the effort.

Getting targeted traffic is about discovering your target market and thinking like they do.

For example;

1. You could add lots of content that is unique to your site and you will get traffic through organic search and then this in turn brings highly targeted customers.

2. You could search for your target market on Twitter using this search in Google.

site:twitter.com "bio" AND ("topic of interest")

This will find people interested in your niche.

3. You could find forums in your niche and participate in them. This is highly targeted traffic.

4. You could go to Google Alerts and set an alert for your niche. You will then get emailed alerts whenever someone writes a post about your topic. Then you can go into the blog and make a comment with a link back to your site.

These are just a couple of ways to get targeted traffic. Traffic can be difficult, but if you find you are getting hits but making no sales then chances are you are targeting the wrong audience.
