Does paypal turn people away?

Currently on my eCommerce website, I am using woocommerce and have payment by Paypal enabled. The transactions are all 100% secure and in perfect working condition. However, I feel that customers are less inclined to finalize the payment when they are redirected to Paypal to complete the order. Would my sales convert more if they could enter card information right there within the site? Thanks.

    I don't understand why you would feel Paypal is a turn off. It has been around for a long time and is well established and offer buyers another layer protection over a standard credit card purchase. I personally have rarely had any issues with customers using Paypal except for those who live in countries where Paypal does not have a presence.

    If you're having problems converting sales, unless your audience is one of the countries where Paypal has no presence I would think it may be the offer itself.

      I wasn't trying to convey that PayPal itself was a turnoff or that their service is not well known or trustworthy. Rather that the buyer is lazy or unsure of the external linkage from the website to paypal to complete the sale. I was only wondering because when testing to ensure all things are GO on my website, I felt maybe i would have a greater chance of completing the sale if they did not have to leave the website to pay.

        I don't get what you mean by the customer being lazy? If the customer does not have a Paypal account and does not wish to sign up for one then they can just enter the details of their credit card and have the transaction processed like any other payment processor.

        However if they already have an established Paypal account then all they have to do is enter their Paypal log in and complete the transaction. Very convenient. No matter what payment platform you use online the payment is processed by a third party payment processor.

        Paypal is well received by most and is known for it's safety. I haven't lost any sales that I am aware of because of it.

    People used to be scared/bothered with Paypal, but I think they are used to bigger retailers offering it now. I noticed the other day that even Home Depot is accepting it right at checkout!

    Seems to me like PayPal is everywhere, so I feel that most people(me included) feel inclined to use PayPay FOR the security, not the other way around.

    I prefer to pay with paypal instead of directly entering my information to a website that is not of high authority. For me at least, not having paypal or some secure way of paying that many are familiar with is more of a turn off.

    I think its best to give the option of using paypal OR credit card, this is incredibly common in my experience.

    Hmm I'm actually far more likely to pay using PayPal than directly entering my credit card details on some website I don't 100% trust.

    Could be different for people in Europe vs US though.

    Most people have no problems using Paypal, but there will always be a few who does. That's why it's actually a good idea to have an alternative even if you don't use it often.

    Just look at any big retail site online and you'll see they offer multiple options for payment, not just credit card or Paypal. Maybe the solution is to offer Paypal for those who feel more comfortable using it (as Paypal allows users to complete a purchase simply by logging in and approving the purchase in one click) or filling out complete credit card details on your site. The more payment options you add, the more likely you will complete the sale. And, rather than restricting your buyer's options, you give them more.

    no i really dont think so because big big retailers (for example, Clickbank) are still using Paypal as theri payment method and you really get a good deal if you are using such an easy payment method

    And its especially a great benefit if you are in a backword country because most of the countries like Pakistan etc are not even allow to make online payments so Paypal is reall a great Deal and people are loving it

    You may mention that eBay Inc. owns PayPal.

    I think that way, they will have more confidence in using paypal since it is owned by a reputable company.

    I think it has nothing to do with Paypal - I personally would prefer using Paypal rather than enter my CC information on any site.

    @Jcedric, a good way for you to verify this is to write a simple script which sums the total number of buyers who clicked on the buy button for a day and compare that value against the total number of orders you had processed. Do that for a month or so, and you'll have complete analytics to help answer your question.

    PayPal has a method that will allow you to embed the PayPal transaction on your website if you feel leaving your website is a problem.

    To embed the PayPal transaction on your website, I believe you have to upgrade your PayPal account to the Pro version, which is $30 per month.

    There is also a way to add your header to the PayPal transaction so people will know they are paying for the correct product.

    NK is totally right.

    Little disclaimer, most of my cusomers are generally in Europe. And Paypal is just a pain for many of them.

    Personally, I hate using Paypal, it's just a massive pain when you have multiple banks in multiple countries and you just can't register your foreign card with them (because you have no address).

    Also something they aren't keen on advertising is that recurring payment for Germany just doesn't work.

    I can't wait for Stripe to be rolled out there.

    i can tell you for a fact it does. i personaly have a problem with paypal. due to my product not agreeing with paypals tos my paypal was blocked so now i cant pay with paypal so if i were to visit your site id be blocked. For a professional image your better to offer something like sage pay its not expensive.

      See i knew i wasn't crazy! I wasn't blaming loss of sales or anything for that matter on PayPal. I was just wondering if once confronted with the option to pay, do some people decide to cancel the transaction because they are redirected to paypal, unfamiliar with paypal, or simply just hate it. Thanks for all the help guys, greatly appreciated.

      So you have a problem with PAY PAL. This tells us that you have may have a product that does not meet Pay Pal requirements/or you have a problem of some sort.

      This is an issue that you and Pay Pay have to sort out.

      And, what payment processor are you using now, if not Paypal? Can you give more details for anyone who might be in a similar situation, such as without ability to use Paypal?
