Amazon Payments and Amazon Associates

This is my very first post, so hello!

My question is regarding Amazon Associates accounts and Amazon Payments accounts. A few months ago I discovered mTurk and thought that it would be a neat way to make some extra money. So, I signed up, gave them my SSN so they could verify my tax information, and began doing the tasks. Within a day or two mTurk verified my tax information so I kept doing tasks. I had about $20 in payments when I got an email telling me I had to make an Amazon Payments account. I did and again, entered the tax information that they needed. Well, to make a long story short, Amazon Payments could not verify my information with no explanation as to why (I emailed and talked to numerous customer service reps on the phone) and was told there was nothing they could do about it and my account was rendered useless and unusable. The weird thing was, I had to give PayPal the same information due to the federal law being passed and was immediately verified by them with no problem. So, I lost $20, which wasn't a huge deal.

Anyways, fast forward to today and I'm interested in joining Amazon Associates as an affiliate. Will I need an Amazon Payments account for this? I know with mTurk you needed an Amazon Payments account so that you could get your money, is Amazon Associates the same? Thank you!
