Any Advice is Good Advice

Hey Warriors,

My name is Wynter Jones and I build software. A lot of software. I am here to ask for advice on how to make positive changes in my business. I have been apart of some big launches here on WF - but never positioned in front of the pack.

I need advice by you (REAL) marketers. One thing that is hard for me is that I always feel like I have build something in order to sell it. Don't do any paid ads, or even build list bigger.

I know you could say that last bit is the real problem. Sometimes I feel like my skills are better for those who know how to monetize it through funnels, lead generation, etc.

I do think I am a real marketer but I am a web developer first. So I am here to ask you a question.

What would you create or do if you could design, develop and market your own software?

Do you care and/or want to learn about the technical side to it all yourself or is something like LeadPages all you need.

The reason I ask is because I have hit a wall - with over 68 wp plugins and dozens of others for other marketers it leaves me questioning what should I do for myself.

I won't steal any ones ideas - just like some advice to help point me in right direction.

Thanks so much for taking time to read and reply

Do you JV with the marketers or do you develop the software and sell it to them?

Marketing is a skill all of it's own. You could perhaps ask those marketers to promote your next software item to their lists, as affiliates? That's one way to get your name known.

You are doing one thing good and that's very important! Keep doing that. About promoting, why not hiring someone able to do that for you. Share 5-10% from all sales. Like other OP said make a blog, but you will have no more time to develop. Having the blog will again keep your time busy from doing the important things. I would simply hire someone. Not full time at least 4-5h per week just to see how it goes.

    All the best!

Beautiful! All the advice I needed - Hiring, partnering and building a awesome blog.

    I highly appreciate it

When I think about it blog with tonnes of free traffic, hire help to take care of bits I don't need to worry about (that sometimes are the most important!)

I do have this blog www.codecore.io which actually has awesome feedback -- so I highly appreciate to actually do that and grow as that been a big step for me.

Also first time I publicly asked for help/advice.

    Thank ya very much

"ANY ADVICE IS GOOD ADVICE" IS A VERY DANGEROUS THOUGHT PROCESS TO HAVE.

Beware of what advice you are given. 99% is here-say,opinion and rumour.

"a little bit of knowledge can be dangerous"

I suggest partnering with people who have experience with launching a product.

In the warriorforum Jv section there are plenty of people who can help you launch your products.

And don't forget to build you buyers list too

I guess it depends on your goals. Are you just looking to have fun with a new software project? Are you looking to establish your reputation? Are you trying to make a few extra bucks a month? Or do you see an IPO in your future?

I've been a developer for 15 years or so and I strongly believe that if it's just about the money, most developers would be better off working for someone else. Everyday I get about 2 or 3 emails from recruiters trying to find me work and I'm not even on the market. When I was on the market, I was getting about 10 - 15 a day. If you really know your stuff, there's plenty of work for you and it pays well. And as a software developer you can easily "be your own boss" and work for someone else if that's something you're interested in. Become an independent consultant and hire out your services on a shorter-term basis.

If it's about reputation, join an open source project and make a contribution. While you can certainly get work without doing that, that sort of thing is a bonus to a lot of the more interesting employers and since you can work on almost any type of project imaginable, you're guaranteed to learn a lot.

If it's about making a few extra bucks, I still say you're better off selling your skills, though solid paying part time gigs can be harder to find. Still, I'd rather have a guaranteed $50 - $100/hour than waste my time trying to market someone else's crappy product without being guaranteed to get anything.

If it's an IPO your looking for (or maybe something a bit less grandiose), build a real business. For a lot of the people here marketing alone IS their business -- which is also why I think so many people here fail. To a real business marketing is an essential component, but it's only a part of what makes a business successful. More importantly is the product itself. Is it fulfilling a real consumer need? Is it well developed? Is there a viable business model behind it? As a developer, you have the opportunity to create that product, to make sure it's good, to make sure consumers need it, and to make sure there's a business model behind it.

Personally, this forum is the last place I'd look for ideas on what to build. The IM niche is small and over-saturated. Instead, I'd talk to my friends and family about what would make their lives better. Is your aunt a real estate agent who could use a certain kind of app that would make the process of selling houses better? Do you have cousin who would love a website that he could use to keep better track of his kids soccer games? Not the greatest ideas -- but like I said, I think you're in the wrong place if you're looking for ideas. Talk to real people with real needs. Talk to your (future) customers.

Hope this helps and good luck!
