%Cut For Upselling Someone Else's Product

I sell a $47 product (eBook and some videos) and I have someone who will create an eBook - we plan to offer his eBook as an upsell to my product.

It's different to my product but definitely complimentary.

I'm thinking that we will price his at $49.95 or $47 and offer to sell both mine and his at $77 - which means his product is 'discounted' to $30.

Assuming we did it this way, what percentage of that $30 would you consider reasonable for me to take a percentage of?

Also, would you consider letting him sell his product without a visitor having to purchase mine (say for the 'real' price of $49.95 or $47)? Keeping in mind my site is relatively new and I'm still trying to build a following and get as many testimonials as I can.

Cheers

I always do upsells on 50/50.

I would suggest that and visa versa from him upselling yours.

      Thanks for your input, Aiden.

      Anyone else have any thoughts?

It seems that this is a fairly even venture depending what the other person will bring to the table. My suggestion is if the two products are sold separately with one being the OTO you should do a 50/50 split on the profit for each sale.

If you sell the product together then the 50/50 spit on the profits for that would be the same.

It does seem that you would make more income not putting the products together. If the products are complementary no matter, which is sold as an OTO or the lead product, then you could test to see which brought in the most sales on the front end.

As a joint venture, each should share the profits in both products because the product, which is the OTO will probably have fewer sales as the lead product.

    I hope this is helpful,

If you do a JV with somebody, it's only logical to do a 50/50 split even if you only offer his product as an upsell. You can both work to market the frontend product to make the 50/50 split fair for both parties.
