Wow, I hate when this happens

I hate when I start a "make money online" project, and than quit after a few months because I don't think it's going to work, and than get some small result a whole freakin year later.

Some dog obedience training slideshare thing I set up a year ago, got one like a year later.

If I had made like 100 slides, who would have known what would have happened.

Same thing with my crappy amazon affiliate site.

I set it up, and it was making a whole $10 a month, and than a year later I made $70 in a month from a very 3rd rate blog.

I just don't get it. The results from what I did seem to come months later, when I forget about them, and they are in direct proportion to the work I did.

Someone enlighten me.

It seems to me as if these results are a direct result of a build up of organic traffic over a period of time (a year).

These results where always going to happen, you just let it be natural rather than speeding it up with some more traffic.

Think of it like working out. Are you going to do curls for a month and then stop and expect results a year later? You exercise for a longer term and see results later, that's why so many people fail at more long-term goals and things in life that do not require instant gratification: internet marketing is one of them.

You said it best about how people seek instant gratification and give up after too short a time. The key to working these online projects is to put them up and then do a little work on them every month to keep them going, but not make them full time. Check on the progress of the traffic and see if there is a new/better way to market. If one takes off in a good direction, then you can put more time/effort into that project.

This is just my thoughts and others may have varying opinions but, marketing on the Internet is a very changing task. A year ago and, more so, many years ago, you could market to complete strangers and obtain some good results. But, in the near past, the present and in the future, marketing will be to people that know you and people that you know personally. In other words people are becoming more skeptical and want to deal with people that they know and trust and will be there in the future and not some sales gimmick that is here today but nowhere to be found tomorrow. The answer seems to be social marketing where you get to know people and as they get to know and trust you will then become your customer.

I understand what you are saying, but in this case, I had results. It's just that they came very, very far in the future(from my perspective), and unexpectedly. I didn't capitalize on it. If I had known....

      Ah, im making excuses now.

Asking "what would have happened" can only be answered by actually doing it.

Otherwise we can only give hypothetical answers.

So just take action and report back next year how it went for you

      Quick question?

Out of those few things you tried, which one made the most sense to you and was the most enjoyable?

I would choose that method and dissect it. Build on it, find out what other people are doing better than you, emulate those methods and keep testing.

I know I'm stating the obvious but you need to find something that works and stick with it, even if you're only getting a small return at first.

Just remember, some people never earn anything online, ever! You're already ahead of the game...

      Cheers

This is a strange phenomena, however it happens quite a bit,
and you are definitely not alone in this.

There have been a few times where my focus is on promoting a certain product, but then the income remains ho-hum. Then when I leave it alone and completely focus on something else, all of a sudden sales pick up for that product.

I think it has to do with the energy that you put towards something when you keep checking for results.

As I am reminded of a saying: "A watched pot never boils".

You know what really changed things for me...was creating my own products.

When you have a product you can actually build a business around everything makes a lot more sense.

You make the product, you build the funnel, then you send the traffic, then you optimize and scale.

When you try to do some keyword based scheme, its so easy to lose motivation because you know in your mind you aren't giving that much value to your customers and you don't believe.

Go watch my video course on digital asset development. It will show you the way.

I've been in that boat. I started a blog and got into affiliate marketing and I thought I would hate it. I love it! Maybe this isn't for you, though I recommend it, but you will find something.
