How On Earth Do I Keep Up?

Hiya,

Does anybody know how you track down where your sales come from in your clickbank account? I've heard it is a good idea to trace the sale source in order to do more of the same but I can't do that if I can't see where they are coming from eg. blog, squidoo, article and such.

I get a little bit of info from google analytics but it is pretty inconclusive where the clickbank sales are concerned.

I've had a look for a thread that answers this but couldn't find any.

Any help would be massively appreciated.

Could you create a redirect page on your site and send all of the traffic there. Then you could use the GA tracking stuff to help find out?????

Without it going through your own site, I don;t know if there is a way.

      Thanks for your reply Allen,

I'm not too sure how I would do that, I'm a bit of a noob and I have traffic coming from lots of places that go straight to the merchant page.

Edit: I've just read your answer again and realised my reply was ridiculous.
Yes I will perhaps try that, then at least I will have more of an idea what's working best.

O.K thanks, and I'll let you know too (hopefully it will be answered here).

Why not ask them how they found you?

I actually considered this at first, then decided against it.

    Yikes,

Not a good idea when article marketing or publishing/syndicating on other sites like Squidoo where you can't do a mass find/replace.

If the vendor changes thier URL (i.e.: JoeBucks --> Markethealth) then you're going to be really screwed.

This is one of the main reasons that EZA doesn't allow it.

Another reason, I guess, would be that you cannot track which sites are sending you the buyers.

I do think that GA can help you if you set up a thank you page that ClickBank/Paypal will redirect the user to after purchasing...can anyone chime in on that?

Wow, I had no idea, thanks for the heads up!

And if I point all my traffic to my websites then I will be satisfying both needs.

        That's right!

Do a Google search for "301 redirect"

The first result in the US has a very good tutorial for all sorts of methods...I prefer and use the php method.

(keeping in mind I'm a n00b myself) I don't know about past sales but in the future can't you use the tracking campaign ID. So when you set up a hoplink for squidoo you can put squidoo, or some other descriptor, at the end. Links at articles could have ezine1, ezine2, etc. Sorry if I missed the point completely.

Thanks. Good point, I completely forgot about that option.

      Nice one!

Ok, here is how to track where your hops and purchasers are coming from

Use a domain redirect to be safe if the affiliate program changes(just to be safe)
go to clickbank and click on the generate hoplink button under the affiliate program that your promoting. You don't have to setup a redirect, but do it anyway just incase the affiliate program changes as Allen already mentioned.

    Setting up tracking is easy.
If you have content on squidoo, just make the tracking id something like squidoofatlossreview(of course you can call it whatever you like)
Wordpress- Change the tracker i.d. to "wordpressfatlossreview"

And make sure to place these new tracking hoplinks on your sites whether in their raw form or through a redirect.

here is how to analyze your tracking.

When you are logged into your clickbank account, just go over to analytics and select show tracking rather than vendor or whatever it is.

Your hops and sales will show up under the different trackable links. E.G. If someone buys from a squidoo lens, you will see the sale from whatever tracking id you set up for your squidoo lens.
This way, you can analyze which sites are sending the most hops or generating the most sales.

Oh, and it helps to have a spare domain for redirects.

for all you secondary properties like blogger,hubpages.... just create subdomains for each one.

    squidoo-fat-loss-review.maindomain.com
    =redirect to
tracking hoplink for that site eg.. squidoo review 1..2..

Of course you don't have to use redirects, but It is always easy to swap out different affiliate products if one is not converting.Just change the redirect.

    Easy enough, Right?

    Good Luck

I use a simple program that makes the redirect page for me, it works like a charm. I believe its called cloaker shadow.

Edit: don't forget to add a tracker in it like Google analytics or statcounter, I use both.
