I'm not sure what type of web hosting I need so I am looking for help please. I plan to eventually have 10 - 20 or more individual one page websites, each selling a different ebook. Each one would have their own domain. My question is... would shared hosting be sufficient or do I need re-seller hosting or ??? I've heard that with shared hosting, sometimes your site would be shared on the same server as porn sites which could affect your site. Is that true? Also, I've heard that many people are upset with Hostgator, Bluehost, GoDaddy etc. What host would you recommend that loads fast for these one page sites?

A Shared hosting is enough for your requirements. However I suggest you to go with bluehost They are providing best hosting platform.

Shared hosting is all you really require as you do not need a separate server and IP for each site, just make sure you don't interlink the sites as this can cause problems, or at the very least won't count for SEO at all.

I have never heard of all sites on a server being penalized for having a porn site hosted on the server.

Surely Google understands that some people use shared hosting and cannot control what other websites their hosting company is putting them with.

Personally, I use HostGator. And they rock! Their support is second to none.

For what you need, you can set up a lowest level shared hosting account (can't keep track of what they're calling it now) and then you can add new sites as add-on domains.

It's all pretty simple and, if you have any trouble, they're available to help.

As far as concerns with porn, I've never experienced a problem with shared hosting.

    Hope it helps,
    Carl

It really ought to be, for sites as small as that.

It's extremely unlikely, if you go to a decent, respected, long-established, mainstream, orthodox hosting company.

People are upset with Hostgator and Bluehost because they're both now owned by the EIG Group, and their services are gradually deteriorating, like those of many other hosting companies owned by the same group. I do have some Hostgator hosting, myself, but I certainly wouldn't choose them if starting tomorrow, and am thinking of moving.

People are upset with GoDaddy for being GoDaddy (I wouldn't touch them, myself.)

And people are upset with 1and1 because they're such unpleasant people to do business with (many people say).

Your hosting requirements are not "advanced" or "complicated" at all, and you should have no problem. Many Warriors speak very highly of Arvixe, at the moment (I haven't used them).

It's hard to say which hosting is best actually, there are so many good hosting companies.

All you can do is check for REAL recent reviews from paying customers, that should give youa good idea. And yeah Hostgator and Bluehost have lost a lot of credit by many people. I still have a shared hosting account with hostgator though and so far everything is ok...

I have been with many web hosts (Host Gator, Blue host etc) and i find that python1.com is 100x better. My websites load super fast and support is also great. Also my websites started to move up in the ranks.

I vote for HostGator. I've had 99.9% uptime since I partnered with them. And their support is rock-solid.

I came up with a short list of shared hosting providers that seem reasonable and don't get many bad reviews:
      Glowhost
      Arvixe
      Frog Host - Web Hosting
      Site5 Web Hosting
      Siteground
      JaguarPC
      PacificHost

I moved several of my sites to Glowhost, because they seemed to be the best deal for me. They handled the relocation of more than 25 sites without a glitch, no downtime.

Hostgator, Hostmonster, Bluehost, Ipage, JustHost and FatCow are all heavily promoted hosts that are owned by EIG and most are hosted in the same datacenter owned by EIG and are quickly gaining a reputation for bad customer service and lousy performance.

I personally use Arvixe, at first it is great. But when your website grows, shared hosting is useless for every host.

You will need to invest into a VPS around $20 a month. You can check out the plans to see which you think is best. The top choices are Arvixe, Bluehost, Go daddy..

I've had Bluehost, Hostgator and Godaddy. In my opinion all 3 have had better days. I avoid those hosts. Instead, I use HawkHost for my shared hosting needs. To me, they are like the old Hostgator (before it was bought) - a very good service.

It all depends on your traffic. If you will get less than 5000 views a day i suggest you to purchase a shared hosting on inmotion hosting. I am using dedicated plan and never faced any issue. If your traffic is low than go for shared plan.

Go with Hostgator, I have been with them for years and they have been very good, if you need to upgrade then it is easy to do, but I think you will be ok with them, or Bluehost.

A shared plan will be ok to start with, you can alway upgrade to VPS or dedicated server, but you prob will never need to IMHO.

Just go with a big name as the cheap deals seen on auction sites are really to good to be true, who can offer lifetime hosting for $10, LOL, they usually disappear after a few weeks.

So just go with a big name like I said, they are cheap enough anyway, just my 2 penneth/cent worth ;-)

OP, I would suggest using GoDaddy as your web host. You can get all 10 domain names at a discounted price if you go with them.

    Hi jercarbra,
I use Hostgator, and haven't had any problems. Shared hosting is all you need for what you've described.

    Good luck!

As has been suggested shared hosting will be fine for you. There's nothing wrong with starting a site on a shared hosting plan and growing you hosting as your site and your hosting needs grow.

Shared hosting should be Good enough. A normal shared hosting account can easily handle these kinds of sites. Do not worry about those dirty sites in the neighborhood. More worrying thing is spam originating from a shared server.

I prefer reseller hosting since it's more reliable than shared hosting. I've got the same price features for shared hosting and reseller hosting in crissic web hosting. But unfortunately, they know just provide vps hosting :'(
You can try ask to webhostingtalk about what kind of hosting do you need

A lot of people seem to love HostGator...and for your needs it might be more than enough. I paid for a year of Host Gator shared plan during Black Friday last year and have hated that decision. I host WordPress sites and while I have never had any issues with my sites on any other hosts, HostGator's automated scripts have knocked my domains offline for hours while I tried to resolve whatever was causing minor usage spikes.

For single page websites you should be fine with them...but if you ever want to do more buyer beware in regards to Host Gator. Personally I love Dream Host for my shared server. Super simple interface, good up time and knowledgeable support.

  • I've had all types of hosting at Hostgator including Dedicated Server, VPS, Reseller, and Shared. Shared hosting at Hostgator will be just fine for you and their support is still very good. You just need the shared hosting package that has unlimited domains, which is the Business Plan, I believe. You can get cheap domains at GoDaddy using coupons. If you start to get a ton of traffic to your websites, you can always upgrade to VPS hosting and they will help you do that if the time ever comes.

I know a lot of my IM pals talk about how great HostGator is, but i went with BlueHost years ago (can't remember why now..). Ive always been happy with them.

Pricing is very reasonable - but most importantly, my experience with the customer service has been fantastic. You get a quick efficient satisfactory response from staff. For me that's more important than price...i want to know that if i encounter a problem or obstacle, it'll get sorted out quickly!

Anyone working with forums? Can you use shared hosting with forums? When I contacted Hostgator, they said when more than 25 SQL connections are open the website will be taken down and I'd need to upgrade to dedicated hosting - is this the case?
