Whats the point of Building a List in Some Niches ?? There's only one Product to sell so why do it ?

I have one Site that I build a List to and its a Work at Home Blog. All my other ones are Niches with just one Product and that is the only product people are looking for. So I dont build a list for them

I am just wondering about ALL of you who focus on building lists so intensely

For instance, in the hair loss treatment or Hemorrhoids Treatment Niches once you sell them that one product that cures their condition where do you go from there ??

What else would you Sell once they buy a bottle of Rogaine from you ?? Whats the point of your List ?

I have a suspicion that a bunch of you pretenders are in IM and building a list related to the IM Market. I can see where this is quite doable. As you can start a List with a Sales Funnel selling SEO Tactics, Traffic Sources, PPC, Article Marketing tools etc..etc..

But lets hear you guys talk about specifics for micro-niches and how you would sell multiple items in a Sales Funnel for one product niches. ?? Lets here your real life examples.

Come on people dont hide beyond your Computer. I want to see who is really, really building a List to these small segmented Markets !

I welcome you to prove me wrong , but I sincerely believe that the Majority of the huge List builders here at Warrior Forum are people in the IM Niche !!

P.S. Please don't nclude the Weight Loss Niche in your real life examples as it is obviously easy to build a Sales Funnel for.

Because a list is an asset and offers value if you try and sell your site. Also some people will subscribe to your list but not buy the product because they aren't sure yet. Build the list and continue to presell them and that will increase conversions.

    Good luck bro

There's very few niches that are so narrow that they can only hold a single product. You have to think about the market you are operating in.

Hair loss: hair replacement systems, wigs, hats, dome wax
Hemorroids: ointments, padded donut cushions, meditation tapes

Guys with hair loss often also have self-esteem issues because of the hairloss, sell 'em stuff to pump up their egos. People with hemorroids often have other physical ailments, offer them solutions for that.

If you can't think of a way to sell more stuff to a list, you're right, don't waste your time or theirs. Just take your single conversion per and be thankful.

        Dude,

If your in a niche with just one product AND its sells I wanna know what niche it is!

Build a list of buyers and interested folk of the one product thats available. Speak to them, ask them what they like etc, then go build a bigger better product of your own. You now have a list of interested buyers for you to pitch your better product.

Or if a second product comes onto the market you have a list to sell to.

Always build lists no matter what the niche.

You need to target demographics of people, not just specific niches.

I build a list in the snoring niche, although this is one of my much smaller niches. Once a person has been "cured" of their snoring, I consider what other problems they might have.

For example, one of the major causes of snoring is obesity. That means the majority of my subscribers are overweight, so would be interested in a weight loss product.

You can do this with almost every micro niche.

    Ask yourself the question:

People interested in information about ____________, would also be interested in information about ______________

there is never just one product you can't just limit yourself to that , if they are interested in organic gardening per say and there is only one information product out there, they would still be interested in other products like organic compost and any other tools that help them with the actual gardening, there is never just one

that is a self limiting mindset, and should be wiped away from your mind this is marketing be creative and and expand and increase profits

Cool thnx for the responses. I guess I got to think outside the box. Like with hair loss , what one poster said made sense. Look for other interest that were relatable to the original Interest and product.

Also take Acne , when its cured you could also sell them lotion for the general maintenance of their skin since you already know the look of their skin is important to them.
Also sell them other vanity products that might be interesting to them outside skin care.

I think I can see where this can all go just by these couple of replies. !! Again thnx And I am excited

I imagine you could sell them a dozen bottles of rogaine over the next year, or promote some other natural alternatives, plus some relevant books and magazines, even get into the self-help or dating markets.

But if you don't want to build a list, don't.

You may not be able to sell another product but as they say, you need to touch your prospect at least 5 times before they become confident in what you're gonna sell.

I have some very narrow niched lists. For those lists I like to use CPA on them. There are some products that everyone likes. For instance I just recently promoted a free $500 Giftcard from best-buy, the ad pays you several dollars per email submission. I put that one out to all of my lists. I don't know anyone that doesn't like free money.

You can't just think about one product you need to grow yourself to other related product; it is about expanding and making more sales

I've been there, done that. I believe that's why my wife's glasses have been so successful - I'm selling one thing. Also, although the competition is fierce and PPC is high, the product is unique. Like I said earlier, in the thread I started, I've given up on the information sales. IMO, those are way too competitive. I've learned a lot from the products I've purchased, but I can't compete with them.

I believe more than ever before that niche is the way to go. However, you better have something unique or special to offer. Otherwise, you'll get lost in the wash.

      Again, just my opinion.

        Have you tried cross promotion?

Remember you have people on your list. Most people are not interested in only one thing. Try promoting other type of products/services that could be beneficial for them.

A niche is a group of people.

I can't imagine a single person on this earth that is only interested in one product in their entire life. So I can't imagine a group of people that are interested in only one product.

    What are you talking about?

Bald people are fat too. People with hemoroids get married. People with a lisp go to school too. People with a club foot have children too.

Where are these people who are interested in only one product in their entire life so it is unimportant to try to ever sell them anything else?

    I don't buy it.

hello everyone. I am a good samaritan - the value only provider - no link promotions, this is what I have to say:

building a list is like having instant traffic lookinh at your offer whenever you want to promote something..

again keep in mind those lists you build are lists or real people just likeyou and me.. they have feelings and motivations and different characteristics.. dont treat them as easy access to money because you wont make money that way..

you have to always nurture your list, provide value and treat them with utmost respect. once you build this relationship with them then the sky is the limit..

also know this "your consumer;s ability to buy is always greater than what you can sell them"

so in this situation what do you do???

Say hello to AFFILIATE MARKETING and more cash in your pocket

Where do THEY want to go?

Oops! If you had a list, you could ask them.

    Hey discrat,

Thanks for starting the discussion...good question and one that many others have asked as well. In my opinion there are some niches that lend themselves to building a list in, more than others...and unless you are outsourcing your operations, my humble advice would be to build lists in niches where you can effectively do profile marketing. Like some of the other contributors have said...think outside the box as to what else would be of interest to these people.

For example, I have a clickbank product in the feng shui market...and a list. I recently made an offer for full spectrum light bulbs that would help lift spirits during the holiday season, which is a great way to 'feng shui' your living space. Since feng shui has to do with creating a better life in more than one way, I can easily tie in an offer like this...make sense?

So in my opinion, this market is worth building a list in, because I can cultivate it in so many ways. But for a market like say, yeast infections...well, I might test it, but honestly...how many people want to keep hearing about yeast infections once cured? You could probably make it work...but what I`m saying is not all markets are created equal when it comes to list building - as you yourself mentioned before...the IM market is awesome in that regard!

Wow, talk about resurrecting a long ago thread !!
Thanks for all the responses, guys.

As far as the yeast infection niche ?? Well, you could also promote a yeast infection list with Dating Products like 'how to get your ex back' right ??
I know thats bad but there some truth about cross promoting and the value that can be found in it !!

Me personaly i would build a list for everything you ever sell period !
one of the main reasons for this would be that anyone who has actually bought and purchased something from you online is not just a name on your email list they actually become a BUYER on your email lists (buyer lists are waaaaaaaaaay more responsive and profitable than prospect lists !) and the product that you may have sold them in the hemmoroid or hair loss niche may not have worked for them so they will be looking for something else that WILL work for them and there are also new products and treatments coming onto the market, just see if your lists are interested in them....... simples! hope this helps

    You that sure about that?

Let's use the two examples you listed:

    -Hemorrhoids Treatment

Ok, who is to say they wouldn't be interested in something like 'Real Health Breakthroughs' magazine? Upsell with recurring income for the win.

    -Hair Loss

This is too easy. People seek to regrow hair for appearance purposes. For starters, you could expand on that and go into weight loss, which can lead to other fitness products as well.

More than likely, they are getting on in age, so that is another whole cross sell category you can explore.

See where I'm going with these?

      Who buys products?

People (plus perhaps a well trained dolphin or monkey)

If you have a list of customers who bought a spoon, try selling them forks, knives, dinner plates, and so on.

A search for the word "spoon" gives over 18.000 search results on amazon.com in the Home & garden category alone:
      Amazon.com: spoon - Home & Garden

And that's just for the word "spoon"!

There are thousands of products a person who bought a spoon might need.

And if you don't build a list now, and then later you come up with ideas for additional products you could have sold to your list, you'll regret not making a list!

discrat, see what happens when you dabble in heresy? Six months later, and people are still trying to lead you back to the light... :p

I would add that, if you are going to build a list, have a plan on what you are going to do with it. Do at least some of your thinking - in or out of a box - before you put the opt-in form up.

There's a right way and a wrong way to tend a list. A lot of people have already talked about the right way.

Here's an example of the wrong way...

A few months ago, I opted in to get a booklet of recipes for baking yeast rolls. I'm a sucker for homemade bread and pastry. Got the pdf booklet, a few messages on related items like pans and kitchen tools, then the guy sold the site.

Suddenly, I was getting multiple pitches every day. The only common element was the word "yeast"... The clod set up some kind of script to scrape content sites for the word and then auto-mail pieces of the content along with random affiliate offers.

        Yeast for baking

        Yeast for brewing beer

        Yeast infections

        Yeast for industrial applications

On and on and on... Oh, and he ignored unsubscribe requests. I eventually had to block him several different ways.

If you really can't think of a way to extend the list you build in a way that at least makes sense, you're better off skipping the exercise.

About the only niche I can think of that might be that limited would be 'how to commit suicide'. Even that, I'm sure someone will likely chime in with ideas...
