The best way to promote new site

Hi,

This may sound like 'dumb' question but here goes.
We have been working on a language learning site and it is finally ready for launch in the next few weeks.

It is a subscription site where the user will pay for a 12/18 month subscription.

The question we now face is what is the 'best' way to market the site, get traffic, get sales. We have looked at SEO and it looks like it will cost around $500 per month to get the site ranked on page 1 on Google and then a similar amount amount ongoing to keep it there.

As we are just starting out those amounts are quite daunting. The question I guess is what is the best way to get the most bang for the buck? Bearing that we are not the most technical of people, i.e. we could not really do our own SEO etc.

Any and all feedback will be most appreciated.

Thanks,

JR

  • It is based on the site.

Most of the site now has free subscription.

I don't know if it is going to work.

I suggest joint venture is a good idea.

You find someone on Warrior Forum - someone who leave good comments your post.

Ask them to write for you, then, you may be able to do guest blog.

That is how you get back link back to your website.

Or, you can try Facebook group, Google plus.

Try all the free ways before using the paid way.

Or, you can try the paid way.

I have not tried it before.

Start a blog and write at least 1 authority article per week that solves a big problem in your niche.

Pick 1 social media network and focus on building your following there. Facebook is probably your best bet.

Start an affiliate program. Affiliates will send you free traffic and you only have to pay for any sales!

Lastly, consider building a private blog network. $500 per month for SEO is expensive if you don't get results. Plus, many SEO can hurt your websites with bad links. Build your own backlinks so you are 100% independent and only work with trusted SEO services.

Online website promotion differs depending on the niche of your website.
For example if your website was on "dating" niche, I would definitely suggest you to use facebook extensively. For other niche forum marketing or blog commenting may get you good results.

Its all about getting targeted traffic without SEO as SEO takes time. And now days relying 100% on SEO is not a smart thinking either. So do these basic research/test and find these techniques yourself and based on your findings you can start promoting your website. I bet you will enjoy the whole process!

This may be a strange suggestion, but what language do you teach?

If it's a language from a country that has tourism, why not include a social media and blogging campaign about traveling in that country... travel and images can do well on social media traffic-wise and it wouldn't cost too much to get it underway. That's what I would do in addition to long tail SEO.

Hmmm... Let's see... Language learning niche and the "best" promotions for under $500 / month... Okay, I'll on the spot formulate an online marketing campaign as a case example for one out of many effective ways to do this, and here goes:

If you're targeting English speakers in Australia who want to learn Chinese, then you can find relevant open source software for Windows and Mac that's licensed under GNU GPLv2, specifically something that can allow English-speaking users to learn Chinese basics in both entertaining and effective ways, such as this software HERE -- This open source GNU GPLv2 software is also integrated for multi-lingual options, so users who want to learn Chinese basics in their local language like German and Spanish among other supported languages can be targeted, but let's use English speakers in Australia as a target user base for this case example...

Then, modify the software by integrating unobtrusive pop-up notifications and dialogue box reminders that will be displayed at timed intervals on the user's screen. These notifications and reminders should compel users to call your toll free number and talk to your premium phone support staff (via a click-to-call button and a displayed toll free number), and / or send an email to your premium email support staff (via a clickable email link), and / or go to your site (via a clickable link) so as to obtain your exclusive discounted subscription promos, and / or go to the general user support forum in your site (via a clickable link) so as to access free support...

Next, re-brand the software for distribution under your brand as free software (or paid if you want, but for this case example, let's use the opt-in model) for your target users (people based in Australia who want to learn Chinese)...

Then, post this as an opt-in download in your site, i.e. User goes to a page in your site to download this free software (also provide a link for developers to download the source code of your modified software version, in order to comply with GNU GPLv2 terms). User enters his or her name / email address / mobile phone number and clicks SUBMIT. Your server adds user details to your database and mailing list as an unconfirmed user. Your server sends a confirmation email to the user's email address. User confirms by clicking a link. Your server processes user confirmation request and flags mailing list and database entry of user details as confirmed user. Your server processes general user support forum membership subscription using user's entered name as username with an auto-generated password. User is taken to page with download link of software along with general user support forum member account details and links to both your general user support forum and to your sales page for your premium subscription membership with an exclusive discounted price as an OTO (one-time offer). Your server sends a welcome email to user with details regarding your OTO (along with your premium toll free phone support number and premium email support address) and user's member account details in general user support forum as well as unsubscribe links and link to your how to uninstall software page...

Next, Use under $500 (following the budget that you mentioned) to implement Bing / Google search and display ads, social ads in Facebook and LinkedIn, advert placements and PR distributions in local online and offline niche-relevant publications and private ad banner placements in heavily trafficked local niche-relevant sites, so as to promote your free opt-in software download to people in Australia who want to learn Chinese -- Of course, ensure that you're integrating the most suitable targeting methods into your ad campaigns...

Then, in the next 2 to 3 months -- Track your results, improve your overall campaign by making changes to your marketing materials and processes (opt-in software version, opt-in offer page, general user support forum page, banner / text link ads for your premium membership subscription sales page, sales copy, etc.), track your results, improve, track your results, improve and so on...

Assuming that you have staff with C / C++ / C# / JavaScript expertise and Web development knowledge (since you just mentioned you don't have technical SEO knowledge / experience) -- the campaign above will cost you under $500 / month, for the next 3 months. Compared against what you mentioned regarding a $500 / month service that guarantees first page Google rankings, which I'll only buy as a 1-month test with a 100% moneyback guarantee and won't set as my primary promotional campaign even if it works -- This is more sustainable, in my opinion...

    • JR,

Originally Posted by jonnyrottan View Post

First, here's an open source software that can allow Windows / Mac / Linux users to learn Hebrew and Greek vocabulary through entertaining flash cards and crossword puzzles, and this software is also implemented with user interface support for English and German: LearnForAll | Free software downloads at SourceForge.net

Second, the software above is licensed under GNU GPLv3, and here are the terms of GNU GPLv3 that you should review: The GNU General Public License v3.0 - GNU Project - Free Software Foundation

Third, refer to my first post in this thread regarding the things that you can try to promote your website / products / services. An option would be to:

      *** Re-brand this software under your own brand and integrate unobtrusive pop-up System Tray notifications (for Windows) and dialogue box reminders (for Windows / Mac / Linux) that will be displayed at timed intervals (pop-up notifications) and upon the software's completion of pre-existing primary tasks requested by the user from the software (for dialogue box reminders);

      *** Integrate effective call to action clickable links / buttons into those pop-up notifications and dialogue box reminders, which will take the user to a Q&A portal in your website where they can post their relevant questions in terms of learning Hebrew and / or Greek, and also implement language selection / translation options into your site and into this Q&A portal, so you can also target German users who want to learn Hebrew (since this software is integrated with support for German aside from English anyway);

      *** Post this software as an opt-in download along with the source code (to comply with GNU GPLv3 terms), in order to build your mailing list of prospects;

*** Display effective and unobtrusive banner ads and links in your Q&A portal for your related products / services, as well as banner / text links pointing to your opt-in page, so you can also promote your Q&A portal as a free online support center for English and German speakers who want to learn Hebrew; and

*** Promote your opt-in offer as a free software for learning Hebrew (and Greek) in entertaining ways, and also your Q&A portal as a free online support center for English and German users who want to learn Hebrew (and Greek), via social media PPC / PPM, search and display PPC, advertorial placements in offline and online niche publications, PR distributions across your target market segments, private ad banners / links in heavily trafficked sites, participation in niche-related forums heavily trafficked by your target users and other places where your target users hang out...

That's it. Re-branding and modification work will require as a one-time investment say 40++ work hours of a C / C++ / C# / JavaScript programmer in oDesk or other freelance sites (in case you don't have someone in your staff with this expertise), while opt-in and Q&A portal set up along with the integration of multi-lingual language options into your site and Q&A portal will require as a one-time investment say 24++ work hours of a Web developer in oDesk or other freelancers (in case you don't have someone in your staff with this expertise) on top of a $15 / month or so investment for a translation website plugin (like GTranslate for WordPress), while you can fix a say $XXXX / month investment budget for the next 3 months of promotions for your free opt-in offer and free online support center via the methods that I described above...

On your website you should have free info to educate potential customers - don't share your course but give basic info on learning hebrew - like how to hail a cab in hebrew; share that info on your facebook page, twitter and pinterest, make sure your article has several keywords in it and educates your audience.

Make educational youtube videos as well, and do this daily and you will rank quickly.

There are always a few ways to do this. I would recommend to start a blog where you write good and valuable content. Redirect the traffic from your blog to a squeeze page that you can follow up with them after they subscribed to your list. This way you have the chance to educate them + to show them the advantages of your membership site.

Next thing would be social media. Make a Fanpage or a group on facebook and provide again funny and entertaining stuff and drip in there some advantages of your membership site. (80/20 rule).

I also would set up an Youtube channel. You can record some language lessons there hat people can see how you teach your stuff and how good you are . It's always good to give them some free and awesome content.

Last way would be alternatively to find some good forums in your niche where you play a active role to help people.

I would recommend you make a sales page and an affiliate program page. You make these and then join Clickbank. You then sell the product on there so that hundreds of affiliates can promote it for you. If you would like a lot of affiliates promoting the product, you will need a large percentage commission for them i.e... 75%+. This is to ensure that they help you because at the end of the day, they are driving the traffic and sales for you.

I would say Facebook Marketing. Facebook is the 2nd Most-Visited Website in the World and 90% of the educated world is on it. Also, people are engaged on Facebook and your advertisement/content can spread like wildfire as people share it with their friends. Even a simple page like will make your page known to that one fan's entire network of Facebook friends. Each 'like' can cost between $0.05-$0.10 and will this will all actually help with SEO as well. As you grow, you can consider engaging professional SEO services, but I would say, for now, Facebook is an excellent starting point for a fledgling company like yours.

Find forums for your niche and join. Create a signature with your website. Comment on what is being said in each post. You can do this also with blogs in your niche. One method I would try would be to create an affiliate program. Pay my affiliates a substantial revenue share on a recurring monthly basis.

Then go out and find every blog / site about traveling to Israel or content sites that talk about learning to speak Hebrew and try to get them as affiliates.

I'd also do a "Free word of the day" thing on twitter and facebook. Explain one word every day, what the translation is, how to pronounce it and use it in a relevant sentence. You could also do this via youtube.
