How much is my userbase worth?

Hey all,

A couple of months ago, I launched a classical banking app in my country, where users could get a free credit report from several banks. Nothing new.

Now, I'm getting a couple of buyout offers and started to think about selling the app (its userbase is the only real worth, of course - around 100k accounts with most of their banking data).

Could anyone tell me, how much is each user worth in this case, approximately?

We get this same question (with minor variations) a lot in the Warrior Forum.

The challenge with selling a database of personal information (like name, email address, etc) is that typically the user or subscriber has not given the db owner permission to sell, rent, or share his/her confidential information.

So while the list of names can be very valuable to the original owner, it is worth nothing to a new owner without the user's permission to carry on the relationship.

Put yourself in the subscriber's shoes. You have given permission to a specific business to put you on their list and contact you for a specific reason. All of a sudden, you start receiving emails and offers from a business that you didn't know even existed. You know what unsolicited commercial email is and you will be accused of sending it. You could get your email account shut down.

  Thanks for the reply, but I got this covered in my Tos. No problem there. So, I was just asking for the approx. price range of this userbase in regards of the amount of data, that's it.

That's the same as with any other project, sold to another company. If a company buys your project, it gets your userbase, so I don't see what's the problem here.
