How To Pick An Affiliate?

Hey Guys,

I've been setting up a JV Zoo affiliate program and they are great, at being proactive in, warning people about 'shady' affiliates. They say it could be damaging to your product.

Do you have a criteria, to pick affiliates? How do you protect your brand and products?

    My only advice is check their stats like their sales history. Also, you can have description like "Add" you on skype if they are interested in promoting your product. So I guess that's a way to screen shady affiliates.

          Because there are shady affiliates who will use a stolen credit card and then you'll get a chargeback well after they have received a commission.

          Don't approve anyone you don't already know and refrain from instant commissions.

      Most of the time, what product owners do when selecting affiliates to make sure that they are serious is to interview them via skype. Checking stats will also help, but if I were in your shoe, I would go for a more personal approach in knowing the person more.

      Picking affiliates wont be your problem. Getting them will be. The simple fact is that your going to have a hard time getting affiliates that can actually send you sales. If you have 100 affiliates you will be lucky to get 1 that actually sends you a single sale (when you first start).

      As for who to approve and who not to. The real question with JVZoo is do you approve them for instant commissions or not. I go by a simple rule using their history 25+ past sales = instant commissions. Less than that = 45 days delayed.

    I become an affiliate with companies who's products I use and like.

    Also, it should be free to become an affiliate. If you have to pay to become an affiliate you should be a little weary.

    Hey there,

    Definitely check their stats - i.e. how many sales have they made, and also more often than not the comments they leave in the approval request can be a sign of being dodgy.

    I generally stay away from people with under 25 sales in total. Those with around 100 or more I approve pretty much instantly, but I still do a search on their email address etc.

    Always put affiliates you don't know on delayed payment, look at the amount of sales they have made and check them out if you don't know them. SO many people have been screwed by dodgy affiliates and getting refunds and chargebacks is not something you want. I had a look at your site by the way, if I were you I'd try scripting your videos and get rid of the "erms" and "you knows" you have been around since 96, you should be aware of these things.

    I make it so that it autoaccepts affiliates with a certain ammount of sales, and bins the rest. You can never be to careful.

    In JVZoo, there is an option to approve the affiliate and only pay them on a Delayed basis. The explaination indicates that they would only get paid after the refund period.

    Maybe this would help when approving an affiliate that you don't personally know.

    Also, you could email/communicate with them to see how responsive they are, and ask how they would be promoting your product.

    In addition, ask for the URL to the website, if they would be using a website to promote your product.
