Where do you get your logos done?

I've been on the search for a new logo creator. I know a lot of people here recommend Fiverr, but I've never had a good experience with any of their logo designers. The logos I've received from Fiverr were just so generic, which I guess is what you can expect for only a few bucks. Anyway, where do you guys turn when you need a new logo created?

You might consider going to 99designs.com and running a contest. You'll receive DOZENS of concepts to choose from.

Try Fiverr many people are willing to design a logo for you for only $5.

You could try Elance, but you need to look over work samples first. If you choose somebody who has done good work in the past, they should produce good work in the future. That being said, people who do good work usually know it and have higher rates.

Similar to the 99 Designs suggestion, there's also Logo Tournament. I've personally started leaning towards MicroLancer... it's along the lines of Fiverr where there's a huge list of designers to choose from, but it's part of the Envato network of sites so the providers are truly top notch (but of course charge a little more). This way you still have a designer working just with you and customizing it to your needs rather than a generic Fiverr logo.

Thanks! Some of the contractors there are incredibly talented. I'll likely be going there for ebook covers as well.

Run a logo design contest on DP forums. You have nothing to lose and you can get a high-quality logo for as little as $25. I would recommend offering at least $50 to the winner if you want more participation.

Depends how much you're willing to spend.

Fiverr's good for cheap designs but if you want to build a start up and have a decent budget just outsource it on odesk and elance. At least you can go back and forth with your designs till you get it right.

For the longest time, I had HORRIBLE experiences with designers. They either didn't do good work, didn't finish the job, stopped communicating with me entirely, etc.

Because designers are creatives, you still have to pay then for their time. So I'd be out the money and still have no usable design.

Getting good, professional designers has been the bane of my business existence.

So I was very skittish about hiring YET ANOTHER designer for yet another design project.

I went with 99 Designs primarily because 1) I'd have multiple designers competing for the project (no more allowing a single, unprofessional designer to torpedo my design needs!) and 2) I didn't have to pay anything if I didn't get what I needed/liked (no more paying for unusable designs!).

Even better, it was done (start to finish) in 7-10 days. No more going back and forth, BEGGING a designer to do the job you hired them to do in the first place!

We got a gorgeous logo from a fantastic designer at 99 Designs. It's professional, with a touch of elegance. I've been VERY happy with it and wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

You can see our logo here: Global Institute of Wellness Entrepreneurs

My best advice is to be as specific as you can. Assuming you have a skilled, professional designer, YOU are just as responsible for the final result as they are. Designers aren't mind readers. The more info they have about what you need/want, the more likely it is they'll give you what you're looking for.

So give the designers as much info as you can. Tell them the look and feel that you want. Mention examples of what you're looking for. Your examples don't have to be other logos. If you like the look and feel of a certain retail store, like the Anthropologie stores for example, let them know. You can mention other logos, websites, retail stores, product packaging, etc. that you like. Give your designers as many examples as you can of what you're looking for.

In my case, I stressed professionalism. Professionalism is super-important to me. I told them I was also looking for something elegant, with a hint of femininty, without being "girly."

I told them I wanted the logo in different sizes, in different formats for both web AND print.

The designer did a FANTASTIC job and gave me everything I asked for.

I have my logo in small, medium, large and jumbo sizes. I also have the logo with both the icon to the side of the name and above the name -- all for both print and web.

You can see both versions here:

      1. Global Institute of Wellness Entrepreneurs
      2. Global Institute of Wellness Entrepreneurs » Blog

Having all of these formats has stood me in good stead: I've plastered the logo everywhere: my website, e-zine, Facebook profile, business cards, videos, etc. When a designer asked for the .eps version of the logo, I had it.

It looks gorgeous in all formats and I've been super pleased.

Better yet: NO HEADACHES dealing with newbie, unprofessional designers!

(I've since learned how to hire designers and will never hire another small-time Warrior for design again.)

      Hope that helps!

Check out oDesk or Freelancer.com. Posting on Warriors for Hire may have a fee but if you have the budget, it's worth posting. And if you want something great done and have a lot of money to spend, try running a logo design contest at 99designs.

Before you select your logo make sure you know EXACTLY which fonts the designer used. Some fonts require you to purchase a license in order to use them for commercial purposes.

    CC,

Whenever I have a logo created I am wary about the graphics used. I have seen cases where the designer will pull an image or even an element of an image from one of the royalty free sites like istockphoto, fotolia, dreamstime, etc, to use in the graphic. Even though the designer may have licensed the image, the terms of service from most of these sites prohibit their images from being used in logos. Why? Because logos are intended to become the sole property of the owner and are often trademarked. The image is taken out of the royalty free, "anybody can license" status.

This is why I'm leary about Fiverr logos. Some of the designers there just grab any image they can and don't read the fine print that these images are not for logo use. Of course, it's not just at Fiverr where this happens, but with cheap logos I often wonder if the designer really knows or cares about licensing issues.

So when you decide on who is going to do your logo, I would be sure to ask them where their image elements come from. Let them know that you're concerned about licensing of the image.

    Good luck to you,

    Steve

Nah, that's not true at all for me. My experience with Fiverr has been great, i always met some killer designers there. You'll probably need to do more research to find the real gems.

I do a lot of design work myself, but always hire outside help for logos, because they can usually do it better than I can. I'd recommend hiring someone from Elance or Odesk.

IMO Fiverr is too cheap for a good professional logo (but there are exceptions) and I also hate how demeaning 99designs is to designers. It's like having 5 contractors come to your house and asking them to remodel your basement and after they finish , you only pay 1 of them. Who would work for free like that?

For us, we use Adobe Illustrator for many years.
Adobe Illustrator is the companion of Adobe Photoshop. It provides results in the typesetting and logo graphic areas of design. In the past years, there are different versions of Adobe Illustrator that have been developed and improved.

I recently used "The logo creator" to make a new logo for my business. I'm satisfied with it. It's drag and drop and the creator has some how-to videos on how to use the software. I did it in an hour or two.

But, if you don't have the time to do it yourself, then Odesk or Elance might be the way to go. There are people of every skill and price level in there.

So, determine your price range and what you expect to get for that, and specify that in your job post, and you'll attract the right kind of crowd.

Personally, I have a full time designer that works with me. He his not really a PRO designer as most of the designs I need are always basic and can learnt by using photoshop, and some logo and graphics software.

Meanwhile if you want something cheap, fiveer would be of help or you can go to odesk, elance for better designers which comes at a higher fee too of course :-)

Fiverr - where else can I source 4 designers for 20bucks?

Not worth spending more on a logo unless it is a Tier 1 site.

I know grafx designers hate me for saying this, but yeah, I outlined the full reasoning here:
SEO and the Way of the Miser

    In short:
    Profit = Revenue - Cost

    - Spend as little as possible.
    - Logos are overrated.
