Email List - How Can I Capitlize on This?

So one of my niche sites that targeting a specific buyers query. Its very specific, we'll say "pokemon yellow gameboy game", as its very similar.

I'm getting a fairly lousy commission from said product, that works out to about $1.50-$2.00 per sale. And I'm selling 30 products per month.

Anyway the site is getting 10k visitors per month or 333 visitors per day.

I do not update the site at all. Its just a niche site made to sit and collect commissions. Its entire conceptualized purpose was to just sell that one product to make me some chump change.

However I have all this empty sidebar space and was thinking of sticking an email collector form there.

I am just wondering if there is much purpose in this if:

1. I will not be adding any more content, so any outgoing emails from me would be solely offers.

2. Traffic is coming for a specific product query. Assuming my product was "pokemon yellow gameboy game", this means that I know they at least are into "pokemon" and could try and leverage that.

The problem is that there really isn't any affiliate programs for this product besides amazon products. Sending emails for random "pokemon" amazon products to get a dollar per commission seems kind of lame to me, but I've never done this before.

Any thoughts on if something like this seems worth it or profitable in this scenario?

I'd wonder what else that demographic might be interested in. What do you think buyers of that product might also buy?

For example: If I'm in a dating niche, I'm probably not selling cruise related vacations... because the demographics are probably a younger crowd. But if I'm selling vacation cruises, they might be interested in a hair loss product...

You know the product you're selling... what sort of people buy it - and are there any logical extensions or other related products?

    Just a thought...

      Alan,

      Correct me if I'm wrong.

You designed this site to make "chump change." You're not willing to add content. If you capture subscribers all you'll do with the list is send them email offers. You can't find any suitable products to sell.

If that's correct, then I would say the site has fulfilled its purpose.

Collecting emails just so you can send a constant stream of offers is a bad idea - nobody wants one offer after another coming to their inbox.

The site is making $40-60/month - just what it was designed for.

With the kind of traffic you're seeing, yes, this site could be profitable. If you managed a measly 1% conversion selling a $20 product you'd be making $2,000/month on your site, right now, without increasing traffic.

But that will never happen if you don't work the site and build and nurture your list.

Not having a product to sell is not a good excuse. Create your own or have someone do the work for you. Ask your subscribers what they want.

Same goes for content - create your own or pay someone to do it for you.

It's all up to you. Work the site just a little and be paid for your effort or keep doing what you've done in the past and make $50/month.

An easy quick fix on this is create your own guide similar to the one you are selling,
then your can make ALL the profit

Also, try adding value to your list and build a relationship with them.

Combine these two, and I'm sure you'll get beyond the increase that you want!

Why keep promoting something that is giving you such lousy commissions? Promote something like BlueHost which pays $65 per sale.

And video gamers are going to be interested in hosting?

Steve hit it right on. If you don't want to do much with the site, it's not going to make you more money. If your getting good traffic, how much more would you get if you added new content now and then?

I don't know your product, but what about CPA offers? Yes, they are often low payouts, but usually convert higher, so you make more sales. Gotta be something else out there you could sell or offer.

Here's what I would personally do...

    1) Build five different opt-in light-box popups on Aweber.

    2) Find Five related video game / nintendo / xbox giveaway / some type of "Freebie" CPA offer on OfferVault.com

    3) Behind each different opt-in form, make it automatically redirect to one of the five CPA offers.

    4) Rotate the Popups. (Very easy to do with Aweber)....

    5) After a month, you'll see which affiliate offers promote the best. Never assume you know what they'll buy haha.

This is statistically the best way to monetize, while exerting the least amount of energy.

I would say a list is great for just about anything. Just build one. You may not know what to promote right now, but down the road you may discover something or even have an idea about something that you can create on your own. For example, there are pokemon games where you gain power ups etc right? I'm sure there are cheat codes for those games, and ardent fans would be willing to pay you for the cheat codes, so imagine if you're promoting a 'a list of pokemon game cheat codes' or even create your very own list? You could be sitting on a goldmine! I know for a fact that ardent gamers pay real (big) money for in-game power ups, extra life etc and even pay more experienced gamers top dollars to help them to play games so that their in-game characters can reach certain levels etc.

Bottomline: Build That List! (You can decide how you want to use it later.)
