I don't use 'buy now' buttons, i use text like "click here to view on ebay" or "check it out on amazon" at the end of paragraphs. Sometimes i wonder what the effects are of making a link more subtle, like you're not actually asking for the person to click it, so they may be more likely to. Maybe if you're too full on like ">>>>click here now!!!!<<<<< then people will click far less?
