Who would win this fight: Sales Letter or Autoresponder?

So I have a blog and I'm selling some affiliate products. I have decent rankings for a few very specific search terms. I'm wondering what will help me convert better... a sales letter or an email list. Which one is best?

Is it correct to say that SEO (organic) traffic should be nurtured via a list and PPC traffic should go straight into your sales letter?

    Sales letter could be one time visit by the visitor. If you could capture the email address, you can use it to send couple of follow up emails to increase the exposure to your affiliate product.

    Always capture the emails. Why can't you do both? A sales letter with a popup that has the opt-in list with an incentive. Always capture the emails so you can keep selling the list.

    There isn't one over the other. They blog work together if done right.
