Creating a Referral Ecommerce Site

Hello,

I am getting into making sites. I have a SEO background and expect to make it my job, if I don't make tons of money doing something else. I hopefully found that something else.

I found a niche that is undiscovered/uncompetitve, however, I don't sell/make the products, so I would have to go to another party to do so. This niche is moderately small, but is not competitive at all.

Is there a process to find a referral company? Would I have to independantly contact distributers of this product to set up a referral system? Is this difficult?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

    Hi phiRossophy,

I would caution you in regards to your newly found niche. Rule of thumb: if there's no competition there's no money to be made...you may want to research the niche more in depth. You can check Amazon to see if any magazines or books are being sold in this niche, this is a good indicator of the supply and demand factor. Think about it...if no one is spending money to advertise in this niche there is a good reason, usually because the customers don't spend money on this niche.

You can also do a search for keyword traffic using Google's keyword research tool or other similar tools. See how many people are searching for the keywords associated to this niche.

Have you heard of Clickbank? It's a great place to find info (digital) products to sell to niches. There is also CJ (commission Junction) a little tougher to use though. There are actually many sites that offer products that you can sell for a commission but Clickbank is the most popular and user friendly in my opinion.

Forums are a good place to get a feel for what the customers in that niche are looking for. See what questions or problems they have, to to clickbank find the product, create a link and post in the forum as the solution to their problem. And again, forums can be useful to test the niche. Are their other advertisers in the forums?

Hope this has been helpful and not derrogatory. I always try to share what I have learned and experienced in my trials and errors. I wish you all the best!

Hey Linda, thanks for the reply! I appreciate the caution, but I realized this niche by using the keyword tool you mention! I am making a career in SEO, after all! I will check out Clickbank right away!

Hey, I checked out the site now. It mostly seems like referral clicks, like you click through to the businesses website. However, I would like to set it up so I am selling products on my page, which is forwarded to a business who ships straight to the consumer.

      Hi Ross,

The Internet Marketing Industry calls it an Affiliate Niche Site. You will find more information when you search this forum and the search engines if you use that terminology instead of Referral Ecommerce Site.

Just to help a little I visited your blog. Unoptimized articles (D). Bad Theme (F). It will never make money. SEO (F) Your blog is not optimized for SEO and Internet Marketing at all.

You may be starting out, but you have a lot to learn if your blog is an example of your SEO background in Internet Marketing.

IMPO, The categories on your blog are very good SEO wise.

Don't mean to be harsh - just helpful - and call it like I sell it.

      Jeffery 100% :-)

My blog is not what I'm hoping to make money off of at all. The article titles aren't optimized at all, yes, but just through title-tags and submitting to proper sites I am ranked on the third page of self-improvement blog, which has 46,000,000 results. This, and I have just changed to this self-improvement format in the past week.

I have not yet tried to optimize for my posts themselves, although I guess I should get on that.

And yes, there isn't much search volume for "self-improvement blog", but my blog phiROSSophy is mostly for self-satisfaction more than monetary gain.

Thank you for the reference to the proper term to search for. I will look more into it.
